Hello. Use POIS custom configured with BaseCamp to identify radars. OK.
Some POIS sets the sound alarm distance to 500m. When setting up a POI to trigger the audible alarm at 100m or 50m it continues firing at 500m. Does anyone know why?

POIs and POI Loader

We use POIs from POI Factory for red light camera and speed camera locations.

The POIs for red light cameras do not have proximity alert distances built in. The alert distance is the same for all POIs in the file and is set by Garmin POI Loader when loading POIs into the GPS. The POI Loader default alert distance is about 500 meters.

The alert distances for speed cameras are different depending on the speed limit for each POI. POI Loader uses the speed to set the alert distance. The longest alert distance could be about 500 meters.

I do not think that BaseCamp can be used to set POI alert distances.

The easiest way is to use the same alert distance for each POI. Using custom distances is more complicated. Extra POI Editor software can be used for this.

Of course I'm guessing "radars" is RLC or speed cams, because a POI is pretty much useless for RADAR, which is mostly mobile and constantly on the move. If it's true radar then a Uniden R3 detector is about the best bang for the buck currently.

Speed cams are radar. Mostly fixed but some are in mobile vans and fake porta potties.

Using the POI Loader, select

Using the POI Loader, select the file to load and choose Meters andKPH. At the install mode page, choose manual instead of Express. At the manual page change the alert type to distance and set the distance you want, in meters.

This will Make the alert distance the same for all the listings in the file.

I know ...

but when I hear/read the term RADAR I think police car, not speed cam, which for my area of the planet are non existent, although PA recently ok'd their use in work zones and a few crash prone highways. I have not seen any yet.

Yes, I tend to think the same thing when I hear RADAR.

In Nassau County NY we had speed cameras and they worked using radar.

Detector

There is one thing the Uniden R3 is lacking!
I have a Belltronics Magnum and it offers total undetectability by Police Radar detector detectors. Which for many is an important feature to have!

My last comment isn't correct, PA just legalized speed cams in work zones and a couple accident prone highways. As for police, in PA only the state police are allowed to use it, so I don't run into it very often.

Yes mostly stationary speed cams where POI's would be a help use RADAR, POI's would be of no help for normal police RADAR, as I mentioned.

True, but the R3's range of detection far exceeds any of the competition, plus I don't travel in Virginia or DC, the only places in the states where detectors are illegal, so I'm not concerned about detection of my detector.
