Testing if mp3 file plays when approaching the location

Hello, is there a way to test if the mp3 files loaded with Garmin POI Loader will play when approaching the location without taking the gps on the physical location. I have a Nuivi3490.
Thank you

need wAV files

.mp3 files will not work. .wav files are needed.

A route can be simulated to go past a POI with a proximity alert, without actually being there.

ok thanks I'll make a couple

ok thanks I'll make a couple POI close to home and do my test that way

Need to be a wav file

You can also simulate a route in the nuvi so you don't have to actually go there.

Installing WAV files.

Please note that if you are using a Windows computer, you need to use the SOX.EXE utility with POI Loader to get .WAV files to work. See this FAQ for the details: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

If you use a Mac computer, you do not need to SOX.EXE.

ok I have made a few POI close to home and it does not work. I can change the icons but can not play a wave file. I have converted the wave file into mono and 41000hz but still no go. Does anyone have an idea or do I need a new Gps.

Follow Alan's advice. As long as you follow the tutorial, everything will work the way that it should. But, you must download the sox file for the .wav files to work. And, it has to be in the proper location.

requirements for wav sound files

Can a member tell us about the requirements for the wav files? If the requirements are not met, the sound will not play.

I have dowloaded the file on the site and renamed it for my test

you have found the problem

Just convert the sound file to 16-bit mono like POI Loader says and it should work.

Also, the sound file should have exactly the same filename as the POI file, except the filename extension should be different.

Just checking

From the image in your link above, a conversion to 16-bit momo should work for a POI file named test.csv (or test.gpx). I see that the message states you have uploaded two POi files from your Mac to your nuvi and wonder if you think the test.wav audio file will work with both POI files. It will not.

If your two POI files are named, for example, POIone.csv and POItwo.csv, then for each to sound your audio alert, you need two wav files named POIone.wav and POItwo.wav as dobs108 has stated.
