Lost computer connection

A couple weeks ago my Nuvi 3597 would connect to both the laptop and desktop. Now they don't. Since that last connection both PCs were updated with KB4462930 and KB4462919. Is this a coincidence or is there a problem with those updates? Anyone else experiencing problems? Thanks in advance.

Try to uninstall those

Try to uninstall those updates and check for the Garmin to connect.

Unfortunately it looks like

Unfortunately it looks like it's the 3597. Changing the cord made no difference and the 60CSx connected also immediately. The 3597 won't take a hard reset, it just cycles the Garmin splash screen, then Nuvi 3x97 then back to the splash screen. Might have to call Garmin on this one.

Try This.

To get it into mass storage mode, you could try this procedure:

Try this: when it starts the loop, try pressing and holding the power button. This is not the same as just pressing and holding the button continuously, you need to try several times to find just the right time to press it(edit: during bootup). Try doing this after it displays the copyright for starters.

If you can time it right, you should get the screen that says "Turn off the Device?" and there should be two buttons - "Off" and "Cancel". Press the Cancel button. This should allow the unit to complete the boot process without loading any maps or other files.

If you succeed, you can then connect it to your computer and it should be recognized as a disk. The problem you describe is usually caused by a corrupt map or firmware file, so with it connected to your computer you can investigate what is wrong.

Note: This method was given over on the GPS Review forum by member Boyd.

Wish I had a solution but I don't.

I think it's bricked

Wasn't able to successfully reset the Nuvi with anything I tried. The cancel or turn off appeared after holding down the power button but there wasn't any change after that for either choice. The closest I got was to see the word "system" flash on the top of the screen a couple of times but the "loaded" never appeared. Connected the Nuvi to a laptop running Linux Mint and the Nuvi ignored that computer too. But thanks for the suggestions. Garmin said these aren't repaired anymore but I can't bring myself to pitch it yet.

Don't pitch it.

You might be able to recover it with the Preboot/cure3 process, but that is a pretty tricky and difficult process. At this point I guess you don't have much to lose by trying.

If you want to ship it to me, I will take a look at it. If I can get it to work, I will ship it back to you.
