Need A Break?

Tonight I felt really ignorant because I don't recall ever seeing this prior to tonight. I had been driving for a while on I-35 and I got the icon that popped up:

Need a break?

Holiday 2.6 mi

Famous Dave's 1.0 mi

Forest Lake Rest Area 0.7 mi

Below were selections: Stop Asking and Ask in 30 min.

This was on my Garmin DriveLuxe 51. I having taking long drives with the Garmin DriveLuxe 51, but I don't recall seeing that. Can anybody bring me up to speed on this? Does it come up based on time only? Or, is it based on miles? Does it simply offer the next few POIs that are very close to my route? Does it offer gas station, restaurant, and rest areas only?

Driver Alerts

@Jim1348 ... I think it is part of the Driver Alerts or Smart Notifications features on the DriveLuxe 51 (and perhaps some other models). The following is copied from Garmin's website listing of the DriveLuxe 51:

Quote:

Driver Alerts: Know Your Surroundings

To encourage safer driving and increase situational awareness, Garmin DriveLuxe provides driver alerts for sharp curves, speed changes, railroad crossings and animal crossings. Additionally, the navigator will warn you when driving the wrong way on a one-way street and alert you to nearby schools and school zones. Receive notifications for nearby red light cameras and speed cameras6, and even get fatigue warnings{7} that suggest potential rest areas after several hours of driving.

{7} The fatigue warning activates after longer periods of consecutive driving without any long stops along the route

You can alter its behaviour in Settings, Navigation, Fatigue warnings.

I leave my DriveSmart 61 on in my work truck while working all day, not just for routing, I like having the rolling map and the clock is easy to read, that 'need a break' notice pops up around 3 or 4 hours, suggests gas, food, rest areas. Even if I click stop asking in another 3 or 4 hours it will pop up again.

This is both good and annoying, for me anyway, I work in construction paving, milling, constructing roads, a lot of time we go the wrong way on a road we've closed to work on and I get the "You're going the wrong way" notice with the screen framed in red.

All in all though, the DS 61 is a fine GPS.

Need A Break?

Thank you so much for the replies. It does make sense and I had just never seen it before. I don't recall seeing it on my 3597, so it must not have it or, possibly, I have it disabled.

It's not a 3597 feature.

It's not a 3597 feature.
