Microsoft just won't stop trying to interfere in our lives.
Microsoft To Ban ‘Offensive Language’ & Monitor Your Private Account.
Use their services, follow their rules.
How is that different from Facebook for example?
"Digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) argues that Microsoft’s hard-line policy stems from Congress passing two new sex trafficking bills. The Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) and the Stop Enabling Sex-Trafficking Act (SESTA) holds platforms responsible for users’ speech, illegally shared content, and anything connected to sex trafficking.
EFF claims SESTA/FOSTA “silences online speech by forcing Internet platforms to censor their users.” The Department of Justice has also warned that the bills raise “serious constitutional concern.”"
When platforms can be held accountable for user's actions, this type of thing occurs. Craigslist removed its online personals section for this exact same reason.
I wouldn't be caught dead using Facebook, Twitter etc. That is my choice!
Using MS is almost impossible to avoid! No I am not interested to going Linux!!!
why is this a bad thing? Just asking!
Read the article again.
The article is talking about online platforms, cloud services for MS office, etc. They are not talking about the operating system on your personal computer.
BTW I don't use FB or any of those chat things either. No privacy is expected there.
Google Gmail gets you to agree to let your emails be scanned before you can use Gmail. No privacy expected there either.
Agree to Googles terms or you can't DL the app.
Again, I don't see the problem here. Use their services, follow their rules. Simple. Easy. If you don't want to follow their rules then don't use their service.
ms has now come out with a new terms of service , they tell you if you want to use there service you agree to let them gather your information and use it as they see fit basically, they can sell it to their partners or third party's , and they don't want you disabling any thing that will allow them to collect your info . now your not going to be allowed to cuss or offend anyone ! lets see now gathering your info and controlling what you can say all under the guise of helping you ?
Look at Libre Office - it is cross platform, just as good as MS office (IMHO) and is free, open source (FOSS). I use it for all my office needs on both Windows 10 and Linux Mint. It does a real good job of reading and writing MS Office files. I converted my wife's Win 10 machine and she didn't notice till I told her.
Another good example of how Big Brother is forcing citizens to find alternatives to tightly-controlled and/or legislated corporate solutions.
As Facebook/Google, etc. suppress and/or demonetize user posts which are unpopular with the establishment, people start to turn to blockchain-based social media like Steemit.
As police departments seize assets without due process in some states (yes, really), people turn to blockchain-based currencies like Bitcoin.
As Microsoft cranks up the user-surveillance "features" in Windows that violates (paying!) users' privacy, more people turn to Linux/OpenBSD, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in the rule of reasonable law and SESTA/FOSTA is intended to stop sex-trafficking, which is a great start. BUT... when laws are not thoroughly thought out or taken too far, they can do more harm than good and we're already starting to see the backlash from this trend.
The unfortunate end-result of this is that it will become more and more difficult to enforce reasonable and prudent laws.
You make some good points
Up to a private company to do so. Their services. But it's so easy to sway the mindset of a population by suppressing speech. Only bad words though......
I sort of get it, but certainy a slippery slope. Not a far stretch to censor political speech as Facebook does surreptitiously.
What you did there.
Hmmmm, sounds like an invasion of my privacy ... I did a search for the official Microsoft announcements and couldn't find it. There were lots of sites that talked about the new ban ... but nothing I could find from Microsoft.
Can anybody post a link to a Microsoft explanation.
is the offensive language M$ is talking about... because a lot of the time their software doesn't work the way I'd like it to!
