It’s not official, but sources say the secretive Zuma satellite was lost

"As of right now reviews of the data indicate Falcon 9 performed nominally.”

On Sunday night SpaceX launched the Zuma satellite into space. What we know for sure is that the first stage of the rocket behaved nominally enough such that it was able to safely return to Earth and make a land-based landing along the Florida coast.

SpaceX, however, never officially confirmed mission success. On Monday, Ars began to hear discussion from sources that the mysterious Zuma spacecraft—the purpose of which was never specified, nor which US military or spy agency had backed it—may not have survived. According to one source, the payload fell back to Earth along with the spent upper stage of the Falcon 9 rocket.

Fate of Secret "Zuma" Satellite Unknown after SpaceX Launch

Rumors swirl around whether or not a mysterious spacecraft successfully entered and began operations in low Earth orbit

The U.S. government's hush-hush Zuma satellite may have run into some serious problems during or shortly after its Sunday (Jan. 7) launch, according to media reports.

Zuma lifted off atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Sunday evening—a launch that also featured a successful landing back on Earth by the booster's first stage.

ka boom

last I heard it was unrecoverable and crashed and nothing was salvageable .

unknown unknowns

Those who know what happened to the payload (or what the payload was) are not talking. Those who are talking don't know.

I don't know but I am

I don't know but I am talking. wink

So Obvious

Perfect launch, crash, now everybody thinks its really not up there. Brilliant way to launch a "Secret Satellite" and have the dummies think it never happened. Was this the Satellite that reverse images all TV's so with all these Alexia's out there they now have Audio and Video surveillance in all homes?

And...

Another report today indicated that it had achieved an orbit, but not the proper orbit.

"Lost"

It's a spy satellite. Of course it was "lost".
