Garmin Wifi Updating

I know that Garmin added the built-in wifi to the following units:

Garmin DriveLuxe™ 51 LMT-S

Garmin DriveAssist™ 51 LMT-S

Garmin DriveSmart™ 61 LMT-S

Garmin DriveSmart™ 51 LMT-S

Is this a feature that is likely to come to lower priced Garmin units in the future or will this be available only on higher end units?

Also, for those that have this feature, how well do you like it? Is it more convenient than using a cable? Does it always work?

What, if anything, do you still find that you need a cable for? For example, if you want to remove languages that you don't use, do you still need a cable?

electronics

Electronics are relatively cheap, so adding wi-fi to unit doesn't cost that much. And it's possible that they expand this future to low-end units. Reason can be simple: you have one design for a few devices but on low-end ones you just can disable some futures or lower quality regime to make them cheaper. On high-end you got higher price for all bells and whistles.

As example look at traffic info for Garmin. First it was some selected unit and special cable was needed. Once they put Bluetooth to moast if not all units you can get traffic via smartphone connection over Bluetooth.

Yes, you still need a cable ...

to do anything other than updates (map and device software). The Garmin WiFi implementation is very limited. They do not have any of the functions you might expect with WiFi ... like device file management, browser for internet access, etc. So you would still need to connect the cable to use programs like POI Loader and BaseCamp or to add or remove files on the device. Also it is important to note that if you store map files on the computer for BaseCamp or some other reason, you will still need to use Garmin Express.

I don't have one of these WiFi devices, so maybe I am incorrect about what they will or won't do. I am sure someone will correct me if my understanding is wrong.

For small files...maybe,

but for larger files I don't think I would download say a map file via wifi when I could accomplish it a lot faster via a cable. Technology and speed is always changing but for now I would pass.

WiFi probably faster

than Garmin's sad USB implementation. Maybe they have improved the USB on the new Drive series though.
