Nuvi 2699 - Gas & Food Alerts

Just got a 2699, what an improvement over my 660. Just took a drive on 81 in the NE and noticed that I kept seeing the gas and food symbol showing along 81. It's kind of like rest areas, not just places in the adjourning areas. So, how do I turn off these symbols?

Assuming you are referring to icons that are appearing on the map along your route.
If that's correct you can keep them from appearing using Settings> Map & Vehicle > Map Layers > and delete the "check mark" beside Up Ahead Place.
NOTE - this will prevent ALL icons from appearing including your Saved Places as well as restaurants, Gas Stations and Lodging. Any custom POIs that you have icons attached to will continue to appear however.

Thank you, it works like a charm. Interesting that there is another layer under Up Ahead Places that has a heading 'Customize Up Ahead' that list Gas Stations, Rest Areas, etc.. If UAP is checked I can go to the customize layer, click on Gas Stations for instance, and it moves to a screen that says 'Select Option to Display' which lists restaurants, gas stations, etc. and has either a check mark or a + sign.
I would think unchecking Gas Stations here, while leaving CUA checked would prevent their display, but it doesn't. I need to uncheck CUA as you mentioned. O well, I have the result I wanted, but curious why they have a customize screen.

Can't help you there. Just another thing from the weird world of Garmin I guess.
To tell you the truth I don't recall ever playing with the individual display options. I just uncheck the one that turns everything off.

The customise screen is for the Up Ahead Places if you select it from the menu item bottom right on the map screen. That's always available even if you've unchecked the global layer.

On the bottom right side of screen you will see three horizontal lines. Touch it and the up ahead tab will show .Now touch that. You will see icons on the right of the screen. Glad to help and enjoy you unit. I did notice on page 6 you can add a custom category. Looks like that could be a good feature to take advantage of.
