Nuvi 1490 spontaneous reboot

Old 1490 problem just started up on last trip.
I don't believe I have actually experience this issue b4. I have had unit for many years.

It isn't a f/w issue - it is the latest. It may be a power issue because it apparently isn't charged after 12 hours on the road. There are NO bars on my battery. That may be why no shutdown screen appeared.
Interesting. But I am surprised it even came on with no bars.

My traffic cable connector may have finally gone to heaven. After a short while on my multi-charger it is up to 2 bars.
Maybe I can replace the connector. @ $0.24 ea it is worth a try.

Battery Is Bad?

I suspect your battery is defective and would need to be replaced since it no longer can be charged.
The spontaneous reboot is a indicator of that since it doesn’t have power to load the maps.
By plugging in into your cigarette lighter will NOT power the unit so it will continue to go into the reboot mode.

I don’t know if you are capable of replacing the battery or want to invest a reasonable amount of money to have the battery replaced. Here are some links that will be get the job done as reasonable as possible.

Video on changing the battery, please make sure you are careful when lifting the battery connector out as the video explains.

I have no idea how similar the 1490 is to the 1450, but my 1450 hasn't had a working battery for probably seven years and has never had a problem ever of any kind.

it is pretty much the same

it is pretty much the same Phil. I have not had a chance to test it on the road again but the battery was definitely uncharged. I do have a damaged connector/cable. I need to replace the connector. It may be that the connector was intermittent causing the no charge, but then how did it keep running for 12 hours on the road. 2-4 hours is the longest I get from only battery operation.

It is still a mistery.

Nuvi 1490

First, look at the main screen with the unit connected up to the charger. With the charger plugged in, you should NOT see the battery icon in the upper right-hand corner. If you do, then the Nuvi is not receiving external power and is running on battery and the battery will NEVER be able to be charged. That could mean that you have a problem with the charger or loose USB jack in the back. I would suspect the latter as the USB connector is well known for breaking away from the PCB. If the charger is OK and the USB port is OK and the battery icon is OFF, the unit should run just fine with a weak battery and even with the battery disconnected! Of course, if you remove the external power on a unit with a weak battery or disconnected battery, the unit will die. If you can check your charger with another unit or device that uses a mini-USB port, you can then rule out whether you have a charger issue. If the charger is OK, then I would suspect a loose USB port. If the battery icon is OFF (indicating external power present) and the unit is plugged in for several hours and the battery icon displays less than 4 bars or shows 4 bars and quickly dies when the external power is removed, then I would suspect a defective battery.

1390 reboots too

My 1390 has always had a problem with spontaneous reboots, but only while navigating. Now it won't connect to my ecoRoute HD anymore. Curious to see if it stops rebooting now.
