In danger of losing your windmill?
Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).
Anything to keep your windmill alive.
This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Amtrak Autotrain - Hurricane Irma
Rode the Autotrain from Sanford Florida just before Hurricane Irma struck the State. After leaving the train in Lorton, VA we used our Garmin NUVI 2460 to proceed by car to NJ. Our GPS dropped the ball big time. We ended up off the highways and onto Washington, DC side streets. We lost an hour of drive time as a result. The unit had the latest map update and the settings were at default (normal).
After experiencing the problem I decided to try Waze on the return leg which seemed more accurate. However, even while plugged in the battery on my new phone ran out.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've always had trouble with GPSs taking a route straight through DC and it's horrible. Just know that if you don't want to go through DC, then get on I495 and stay on it till you get to Exit for I 95N.
You can also go into to Settings>Navigation>Custom Avoidances>Add Avoid Area and block the entire area inside the I495 circle.
As for your phone, get an aftermarket charger that provides a higher amperage charging current. Something with at least 2 amps.

Needed a slow route
Had to drive over to the next county on a 'donut' spare tire to get a flat fixed, and I needed a slow (max 50 mph) route. Had a heck of a time getting Google Maps to plan that.... but I got 'er done!
Note to self: Next time, use Google My Maps instead.

"Random" Drive
Just got back from a 2 day run to add to my Iowa counties for finding geocaches. It's the first time I made an intentional run like that, but I just got 16 new counties (not contiguous, not starting with my home or surrounding counties) on an almost 700 miles run. That gets me to just 61 out of 99. It's beginning to look more and more like getting the rest could be a retirement project someday.

Recent Trip
Went to Palm Springs, CA a week or two ago. In the past, my GPS tried to guide me through Hemet and San Jacinto, when in fact, that would add gobs of time to my trip coming from San Diego. This time, it did not. I did not change any settings since last year so that's not it. Just glad to see it behave this year.
