Garmin 265 WT gives me distance to next interstate even if I'm staying on current highway

Hi, I currently have a Garmin 265WT. The question I have is regarding the display. As an example if I am on a major highway and I am say 15 miles from the exit that I need to use , if there is a major intersection before my exit, it displays the distance to that major interstate/intersection even though I am not taking that specific route and it is not part of my route that I need.

Example.

I'm driving north on Interstate 80and need to exit at Exit 350, which I am 29 miles away from since I am at Exit 330 ( the exit numbers are mileage based), At Exit 337 is the interchange of I-380, which is 7 miles from where I am.

Rather then the display on the GPS show 20 miles to exit I need, it shows 7 miles to the next step and then once I get to exit 337, the GpS searches and then displays 13 miles to the exit I need.

Is there a way to change this because it is idiotic to tell me how far I am from an exit that 100% I will not take because it is out of the way. This display on the GPS is very annoying.

No.

There is no way to change this default behavior, and it is different for different Garmin models. On my 3597 when navigating to a destination, the top line shows the next turn and the bottom line shows the road you are driving on. When not navigating a route (simple map display mode), the top line shows the next major cross street, road or interchange. Also, some the data fields can be changed to various values (like distance to next via, distance to destination, arrival time, direction of travel, elevation, etc. I don't think you can do that on a 265.

An Intersection such as this

An Intersection such as this is a major waypoint. That's why. When you reach I 380 you are most likely going to get an instruction to "Keep Left to I 80" or "Stay in one of the two Left lanes".

.

Yes, the unit is working as designed. It's intended to be a helpful feature in case you need to get off the highway, change where you are going, etc., so that you know how far that is.

If it "annoys" you, just ignore it.

That's the answer

Phranc hit the nail on the head. I assume that your PGS has "lane assist," the function that in the upper left corner shows your next turn. Even though you may think your next turn isn't for 20 miles, the GPS is giving you a heads-up that even though you're "continuing straight", you need to make sure that in seven miles that you move to or stay in a certain lane. It's actually a very good function.

I agree with your point that Phranc correctly identified the issue being discussed, but wanted to correct your statement about lane assist. The nuvi 265 does not have any type of lane guidance other than the standard voice navigation prompts and the single curved arrow symbol to indicate a turn. Lane Assist and Junction View were both introduced on the 7x5 series. Even though the 2x5 is in the same generation of nuvis, it did not have the lane assist feature.
