Garmin Drive 50

Dear Users,

I have recently purchased Garmin Drive 50 and used only today to a route where we had intersection.. I could see junction view pop-up.

Is it a case this GPS doesnt support split screen junction view?

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/523230

I watched video before purchase where they show junction view .. I am new driver and so disappointed without having this feature .. I need this to ensure I am on the correct lane.. Could someone please please help me..

If this is not supported, I am not sure what one I should really buy.. sad

I am so sorry, if there is a way/steps I can do to bring junction view then I would like to keep this GPS rather than make return and all the formalities sad

Please help. Thanks for your help in advance.

Junction Views

Welcome to the Factory.

When you click the link you provided above, the top image shows the Drive 50 displaying the map on the left and a split-screen JV on the right. Do you see these when you're driving a route?

The specs for the unit also say Lane assist with junction view (displays junction signs).

I'm confused as you say you drove a route and saw a junction view but then ask if the unit supports split screen JVs. Didn't you just write that you saw one?

Just in case, junction views only appear as you drive a route. If not driving a route (a route is where you selected a GoTo destination) there will be no junction views at ramps since the GPS has no idea where you want to go.

Two more thoughts:

First, you mention an intersection. Junction views don't appear for intersections. They're intended more for highway interchanges and the like.

Second, you mention wanting to be in the proper lane. Are you by chance referring to Lane Assist, the small arrows in the upper left of your display? Once again, click the link you provided and scroll down to the various images, the one with "Gardner Road" in green at the top and the Lane Assist showing two lanes and instructing you to be in the left-most lane.

Please advise as I'm not clear what the problem is that you describe.

Stick around, there's a lot of useful info here as well as helpful users.

if you check above link in which there is a image beside "Navigate Complex Interchanges with Ease" does it mean it will show only at selective interchange/sections and not at ever lane (left turns?)

I am getting the lane to be in at upper left corner, but no junction view to show error that I have to change the lane.

I checked on .SystemJCL folder and could see a file with 112 MB of size.. If I replace this file with Large JCV file will it show for more intersection or Garmin will never show lane change for any intersections?

Sorry to ask so much of queries.. I am new to US and lane change is so difficult I am facing.. I am just take some direction and still facing trouble where I need to take right or left sad

More on JVs.

First, the link you include above is for the more advanced Drive 58, not your Drive 50. Not having either, I can't confirm or deny that the 50 also offers this feature of the 58. You probably should do some more testing with different routes since the route you've tested so far may not have a junction view of the sort you will see elsewhere. Not every interchange in the USA is offering Junction Views with or without advanced features, but as time goes on, future map updates may offer views not available with the current map. Just checking, have you updated your Drive 50 to the latest map yet? If not, do a map update.

The Drive 50, 51, 60, and 61 cannot use the Large JCV file. See:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45292

The 112MB JCV file you have is the correct one for your device and is smaller than the Large JCV because the images are not photrealistic, are split screen rather than full screen and because your Drive 50 does not have a map of all of North America.

The combination of the displayed junction view on your device with the Lane Assist feature should help you but it does not offer as much help as the more advanced Garmin GPS models. Here are a couple FAQs with links to some of the types of Junction Views as well as Real Directions offered on some models:

Don't worry about asking for advice. That's why many of us are here. Good luck.

A suggestion

In short, I think if you're question is based on driving a single route with the new GPS, what you should do is to test several other routes including different interchanges and see what your GPS shows you. It may just be that your first test route is missing the Junction View or other assistance for that particular interchange but that most others offer the guidance you want.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

First thing I did after receiving this GPS is upgrade to latest maps 2018.20 49 States maps..

I am not sure whether nuvi58 will provide more feature then Drive 50 but I am thinking of returning this one as this is my recent purchase.. But before I do, I dont see any strong point to do it as I think what I dont see the same view in that 58 as well.

Maybe I am just lacking some basic things which I am trying learn out of this device which suppose only for assistance.

Thanks for all your help smile
