How to Contact a member

A few months ago a member from this website send me an E-mail he wanted to help me with some question that I had about my GPS,I did not mind that he send me mail it all, exspecially if He live near me but I delete the messages by accident, before I could reply

1) how was he able to find me my E-mail

2)Can anyone send personal mail to any users from here?

Some can be found, others not by another user

If I click your Driver 38 just to the right of the police car above your stars, I'm taken to your account which has a View and a Track tab. If you also have a Contact tab (as you do), I can click it and send you a private email just as you can do the same with me.

The Contact tab is optional when you sign up as a user at The Factory and some users decline the ability to accept emails from other users. You can also go into your account, select Edit, then enable or disable it:

Contact settings

[] Personal contact form

Allow other users to contact you by e-mail via your personal contact form. Note that while your e-mail address is not made public to other members of the community, privileged users such as site administrators are able to contact you even if you choose not to enable this feature.

One more thing

For completeness for those worried about security of email addresses, etc., when one member contacts another through this personal contact form, the sender will not learn or know the receiver's email address.

But the receiver will see the sender's email address and if he/she replies to you, then you will learn the email address of the other.

Reply to contact.

And to add to what CragW said, if you are contacted by a member through the contact form and wish to reply, but don't want to expose your email address, just use the Factory contact form to reply and your address won't be exposed.

That said, I have replied by e-mail to many of the regular contributors here. I trust the long time members here who post regularly and have no reservation about them having my address.

I hesitate to challenge you since I could end up with egg on my face but I wonder if that's correct.

As my recollection goes, the sender using the Contact tab won't know the receiver's email address but the receiver of the email will see the email address of the sender.

For example, you once contacted me through the Contact tab. From the message I received (Subject = [POI Factory] Possible new FAQ?), it showed your email address as alan@******i.com. (Note that I'm not offering the characters for the *s and I won't even guarantee that I've used the correct number of *s!

PS: a certain Germannic-sounding user browbeat me into offering a FAQ and if accepted by TPTB, it should be available soon as:

Note to all. The link above won't work until its content is approved. If/when offered, feel free to review and offer improvements.

I stand corrected.

Thanks for being on top of things to keep me honest Craig. smile I must have been thinking of another forum. In POI Factory, I guess the way to say it is that the receiver's address is protected, but not the sender (when using the contact form)

1st contact message

I went through my emails to find out exactly what you get when another member contacts you.
I gave it a phony name and phony ID numbers.

Not to worry, if I ever need to challenge you again, I will again remain filled with fear.

More than most ever would want to know

@Craig

thanks

For those that have concerns, use a throw-away email address for websites. It helps privacy, and is a spam catcher.
