Why do you think the GPS does not recognize it ?
The SD card has to have files on it that the GPS can recognize.
If the SD card is plugged into the GPS and you can see the NUVI and a SD card then that's the way it should be,

Nothing wrong

There is nothing wrong. 16 GB is the right size and SanDisk or Kingston are the best brands.

You did the right thing and that's the way it is. Garmin Express waits until the last moment to use the SD card. The memory on your device can be almost full and the card won't be used. Happily, the map is constantly growing and most likely with the next map update the card will be used. This is done automatically and you don't have to initiate it.

Exactly right! And after installing the card like it says Garmin Express takes no action!

Time for the cloning method then !

Why?

In this case why clone? GE will take care of the problem and use the SD card as needed.

I really don't see the problem here.

I've never cloned on any of the Nuvi's I take care of and they have all used the SD card when needed.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Garmin express and SD card message

I am not suggesting that Garmin Express not be used. I am commenting that Garmin Express, after warning that an SD card is needed, does not use the card immediately. The user only has to know that this is normal and nothing is wrong. The card will be used in the future without any action required.

The cloning method has its place, but Garmin Express does this job without risk or effort. I recommend to the OP that the cloning method is inappropriate in this case.
