Nuvi 58lm problems ("accessory not available")

From the home page of the GPS, touch Settings/Traffic. If traffic is not listed in the settings, the 58 LM does not have traffic even though a traffic receiver is connected.

The above link says: NOTE: This feature (traffic) is not available on devices that do not include lifetime traffic (Lifetime Subscriptions).

You may be able to purchase Lifetime Traffic. I would check with a phone call to Garmin support that the 58 LM can run a traffic subscription:

I do not know whether the GTM 25 is the correct traffic receiver for the 58 LM.

I think you may be incorrect about the difference between the nuvi 58LM and the 58LMT. I think (but am not certain) that the 58LMT has the traffic receiver built into the device and uses the TA20 power adapter with antenna, not a GTM type of power adaper/traffic receiver. I don't know whether a 58LM can use a GTM traffic receiver, but suspect it can not.

I contacted Garmin and they wont even tell me what antenna model is included with the 58LMT unless I give them a Serial Number.

On their website it does not say and other research i did does not specifically say the compatible model.

Other research that I have done says that many LM models can have the LMT antenna plugged to it and make it work.

I think you will find that the 58LM is not compatible with traffic. But the way to know for sure is find a friend or relative who has a nuvi with a traffic receiver (like the GTM-36), plug it into your nuvi and see what happens. You already know that the GTM-25 doesn't work and the nuvi 58LM is not shown in the compatibility list of any of Garmin's traffic receivers.

The LM designation indicates map updates only. For it to be traffic enabled it would have a T in the model designation.

GTM 25 are for older model GPS. like 1450/C550..You mention that you just purchase this GTM 25 cable..Well I have 2 of them, 1 as lifetime traffic and 1 does not.

You may have purchase a GTM 25 that does not have lifetime traffic.

Some GTM cable only have a 30 days traffic, a new license must be purchase again to actived the traffic.

When you turn your GPS do you get any messages that you need to renew it ?

Did you purchase this cable new or used ?

Ask the vendor ? You maybe Tough that you purchase a lifetime traffic receiver ,when actually you purchase one that only had 30 days.
It still work on the Gps to give you direction but not as traffic.
