DriveLuxe 50LMTHD - Available Storage Space and Using an SD Card

Available Storage Space

The DriveLuxe 50 arrived with 8GB of internal storage of which 7.02GB was usable and 1.37GB free.

After updating to map version 2018.20 and the system software to version 5.20, there was 799MB free, and reinstalling the Foursquare database file brought that down to 610MB.

Deleting all Voice, Text, Themes, Vehicle, Keyboard, Help, and Documents files that I did not need there were 826MB of available free space.

Note - The Documents folder maybe new to you. It is found in the Garmin folder and contains PDF versions of the full Owner's Manual in English, French, and Spanish. I deleted the French and Spanish versions.

Using an SD Card

On the Nuvi 3597 I have for some time stored the units map files on a 32GB SD card and not on the device. This is a simple process when using Alandb's Cloning System and works great.

On the DriveLuxe the Cloning System still works but there are some changes in where files are stored that took some playing around to figure out.

The main issue was that GE places the Foursquare database file in .system/map folder but if you want to use Foursquare and leave the database file on the SD card you need to move it to a Map folder in the card's root directory (Card/Map from Card/.system/map)

As with the 3597 the 3 main map files (gmapprom) need to be moved from the card's .system folder to the map folder in the card's root directory. This is the same folder created for storing the Foursquare database file.

Placing either the gmapprom map files or the Foursquare database file in the .system/map folder will result in you having no maps or Foursquare functions on your Drive.
