3597

I have a 3597 with a GTM60 cable and it has always worked.

For best reception, you must have the little plastic box up above the top of the dash. Apparently that is where the FM antenna is. I hang the cord over the mirror to ensure that it is up high enough.

Of course, the cord you got could be defective.

Garmin smart Link

You could always try Garmin Smart Link. Smart Link has better coverage (both in the number of roads with traffic reporting and with the areas that the signal can be received) and is updated much more rapidly.

Not necessarily the cord, could be the connector on the GPS.

Traffic cables

I have tried Smart link and is forever crashing or is very slow to load.Gets real annoying waiting foe some parts to load then a window pops up cannot load wait or cancel. I have deleted and reinstalled many times to no avail. It has got worse each time it updates. It has indicated that the cable [60] is not compatible?

...but I remember reading somewhere that some of the 3597's use a GTM35. I can't remember where, but it just sticks in the back of my mind that I read it someplace. (Of course, I'm getting old so it could just be a figment of my imagination.) grin

LMTHD

I think in the North America market, Garmin only sold the 3597LMTHD and that model includes HD traffic with the GTM-60 receiver. Other versions of the 3597 may have been sold in other parts of the world.

The GTM-35 will work because i swapped it from my wifes gps,
when my GTM-60 stopped working. Not many places that have HD traffic anyway. I have had issues with both receivers in my truck because the receiver part lays right over my heat vent. Fries it after a while so i was glad when they came out with internal traffic like my 3580LMT (3590LMT) bought in Canada. Don't need a traffic cable anymore. It does list them as an accessory, not sure why you would need it though.

so the question is...

What's the difference between the GTM 35 & the GTM 60?

About the only thing that might make sense would be revived sensitivity but I don't know.

I have used all three types and have gravitated to the Live Traffic, i.e. Smart Phone Link. In the San Francisco Bay area, HD and SmartLine are on par with each other. SmartLink has the additional advantage:
1. I do not need a traffic or even a power cable for the traffic to be displayed on the Garmin Screen.
2. I can set up a route destination inside my home, send it to the Garmin whether it is on or not. When the Garmin is powered up , the destination is displayed and I am ready to go.

Simpler reply

I would have guessed the difference to be -25.
