Squished Penny Locations

Hello,

I am brand new to the Garmin world as was wondering if anyone is also a collector (actually my 6 year old is)of squished pennies? I travel almost 100% for my job and this is one of cheaper collector items I bring home to him. There is a site with the adresses listed etc.

Is any one interested in getting this type of POI started?

Thank you

It's those changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same. With all of our running and all of our cunning, If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Good news

I was just contacted by the 'Penny Men' web site and I sent them the RFI I did for the Frisbee Golf courses so they could see what the file is and why these are needed etc...so this may be coming soon...

Huge task

I would imagine this will be a huge task! Good luck. BTW the proper name for these things are "elongated cents" Google that term and you'll probably find a lot more.

Good Luck!

Squished, Smashed, Pressed etc..

I am in contact with the owners of the websites with the locations so hopefully we can get a list to work off of? I am not sure this will be any harder to do than the Frisbee Golf File I am working on now...at least most of the locations have addresses or established names...

I like the squished paenny

I like the squished paenny name. You have to have that for your POI.

I-80 in Indiana

Each rest stop has a machine for this..

Milwaukee Zoo has them..

Don't tell my wife about this POI file, she's an avid collector.

good luck with that

Once she finds out you'll be doing a bit of traveling around for sure!

The mall of America in Minneapolis has a few machines as well, not sure if they are in the POI.

Geocaches

I started collecting them when I started Geocaching. People would leave them behind as "swag". Now whenever I see a machine, I'll get the squished penny.

No more for me

We've found them in several states, and have the ones from Mall of America (the ones we found). I brought home a bunch from Milwaukee Zoo, and hit just about all the I80 rest stop ones when I was driving truck..She wants any more she's got to go get them herself. She started collecting on our honeymoon in Pennsylvania.

I have a few

I should say my kids do. I got them a couple from the Virginia Aquarium and other places. They each have a book to put them in. It would be nice to have a PIO with the states broken down instead of printing off the website.

I bet she has a nice collection, they are located everywhere.

This will be a MASSIVE POI, would take a lot of effort to maintain but definitely a neat one to have!

Ah, a guilty pleasure of mine. :D

Count me in as a GROWNUP who'd be interested in a squished-penny machine POI database grin

(And if you don't already have them as sites to check, you may try http://pennycollector.com/ for locations of at least SOME squished-penny machines grin)

Kalahari Ohio

Kalahari resort in Ohio has at least two machines that we used!

Probably best by state

It's still probably not going to be THE largest POI on this site (that honour goes, most likely, to the "Businesses with Free Wifi" POI which is well over 100,000 entries at this point).

That said--the creator of this POI set seems to be breaking this down by state, which is probably the wisest course--load what states you need when on a trip, and there you go grin

The B & O Railroad has one

All good, and workin' on an icon! :D

D'OH...didn't realise, still, it's all good--and at least with the penny-squishers nearby, they DO seem to be pretty accurate as to location.

BTW...presently working on an icon for squished penny machine POI sets; if you'd rather I do a single icon for all the sets or a set of icons per state, let me know. (Pretty much making the images in SVG vector format, then scalin' them down in Gimp to see how it works as a BMP file--yay open source software tools to play with, and making stuff in vector format then scaling down in BMP makes the finished product look better IMHO.)

If you are bold

You can make them on railroad tracks. Of course they won't have any embossing. I haven't done this since I was 12 years old.

If doing this, PLEASE be safe.

Most all the rest stops on the PA Turnpike have the squisher machines.

Trees of Mystery

Squashed a penny here just for you guys!
