GTM 12 Signal on Nuvi 350

Does anybody know whether this signal broadcasts all the time or just periodically? I don't seem to be missing anything, but the Traffic icon only lights up periodically. Other than a few questions, I love this thing. Just wish the information was available in more areas.

If I'm not mistaken, it

If I'm not mistaken, it depends on the area that you are in and if there is traffic information being broadcast at that time. I live in central NJ and I seem to have better results at rush hour as opposed to other times during the day.

Are these of much use? I am just wondering if I should get one for my nuvi 350

Where do you live?

It's a value judgment that you have to make for yourself. You could pick one up on eBay for a reasonable price, and it may have a free trial with it so you can try a while before you subscribe.

If you're out in flyover country like I am, and the closest place the service is available is 2 hours away (at interstate speeds...) and rarely would you go there, then, no, it's not of much use. But if you're in a metro area where the service is available, they can be of enough use that people think a subscription is worth their while.

Agreed - it depends on where you use your GPS

I live in Baltimore and the area has complete FM traffic coverage. I work in the DC area and that area too is completely covered. We have pretty bad traffic around here - second only to the LA area. I never ever get stuck in traffic anymore, and some days, I take the road less traveled because I am told to do so by my GPS. It's always nice to avoid traffic and find a new route that I never considered.

If you don't drive in an area with coverage, this would be a wasted investment. You can check with your GPS manufacturer's website for coverage maps. For my Garmin 370, I get data from realtime traffic. Their website is http://www.realtimetraffic.net/ and they have coverage maps. Different Garmin units use different traffic services so don't assume that if you have a Garmin you would get service from realtime. For hoogie69, I'm pretty sure the Nuvi 350 uses the same equipment as the 370.

Has anyone used the traffic

Has anyone used the traffic receiver in Tennessee?

It depends on the quality of

It depends on the quality of data and update frequency in your area. I just got one for my 350 and their traffic data in the Milwaukee are not very accurate. For the past two nights I been told to avoid the same spot that's heavy congested and it's not. This thing is going back. And besides it adds more clutter to the car.

The most accurate traffic gadget I found so far is the Traffic Gauge. Unfortunately they will not have a pocket model for the Milwaukee until 2009. They will have one for Chicago next year. I have been using their internet version and it's very accurate.
