How do you adjust the alert distance for Speed and RLC cameras Plus additional questions

I have a Garmin NAV 5 which is the same as a Nuvi665 with BMW files already loaded.
How do I confirm my RLC and Speed camera POI's are loaded?
How do I change the distance and speed alert for the POIs
How does the alert function, Is it on the map? Separate Icon? I know I can set the tone that is all I saw for adjustments.

lots of info here

Not familiar with your unit but there is a lot of info on it here:

. 2 Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S, Nuvi 2689, 2 Nuvi 2460, Zumo 550, Zumo 450, Uniden R3 radar detector with GPS built in, includes RLC info. Uconnect 430N Garmin based, built into my Jeep. .

Garmin POI Loader

When loading POI files into my Nuvi devices, the speed and distance alerts for each POI file (if wanted) can be set using the Garmin POI Loader program for Windows.

nav 5

I don't have a Nav 5 but it should be the same as a number of Garmin units.

If BMW has POIs already loaded, they are probably not Custom POIs from POI Factory we are talking about here. BMW POIs could be part of the map and cannot be changed.

For POI Factory POIs:

To check Custom POIs that were loaded, it may be in Where to/Extras/Custom POIs.

The distance for RLC POIs is the default 1320 feet if running POI Loader in auto. If running in manual you specify the distance desired.

The distance and speed for speed cameras is contained within the file and is loaded automatically.

To see an alert as an icon the icon graphic file must be loaded by POI Loader. It is easy to do - see the FAQs.

How do these alerts display

How do these alerts display when approaching an RLC or Speed Camera?
Do this highlight on the screen with a separate Icon?
Are they high lighted on the map?

custom pOI alerts

The alerts for Custom POIs have an icon on the map only if you previously loaded the icon file using POI Loader.

Are we talking about BMW POIs or Custom POIs?

Welcome to The Factory.

If you're referring to speed and redlight files (and as a new member without a windmill, you'll pay a small fee to access the two files) from The Factory that you loaded to your device with Garmin's POI Loader program, then the icon will be a tiny black dot most likely unless you've included a custom icon with the speed and RLC csv files.

For adding custom icons, see:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359

and for already made icons, see:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6503

Note that the default audio alert will be a 'ding' if the NAV 5 behaves like a standard nuvi. You can also customize your audio alerts but let's make sure you can install custom icons first.

Read the faqs, above, and try it out on your NAV 5. If you have further questions after doing these tasks, report back with the questions.

The zumo 665 can play mp3 audio so you will have the choice of using mp3 audio alerts or wav files (with sox). But save trying this for after you have installed your custom POI files with a custom icon.

start simple

This is the simplest FAQ on loading Custom POIs. Start simple by loading a POI file without sound or icon. Once that works, progress onto another FAQ with sound or icon.

For the newest Garmin GPSs, look in Where to/Categories (then page down) /Custom POIs
