URGENT: Garmin Express displaying "There was an error installing the update Garmin"

Hi all,
I am travelling soon and I have an urgent problem to resolve. I purchased an update to the European map and tried installing it to my Garmin nuvi 3490 using Garmin Express, but it keeps giving me this error: "There was an error installing the update Garmin". I tried at least 5 times with a 16GB microSD installed in the device and once without a microSD. I also tried only updating Western Europe which I already have installed. I even tried downloading GarminMapUpdater.dmg but I wasn't supplied with a product key in the email and I'm not sure if that application is still supported and works. Anyone know how to resolve this issue? I wish it identified the error so that I am able to diagnose and fix accordingly.
Map update.
What map originally came on your 3490? Was it the Europe map? The reason I ask is that if you are "adding" a map that was not originally installed on the device, it is a different product (not a map update) that you need to purchase.

Call Garmin
From whom did you purchase the "update" and on what media (download, sd card, etc).
Call Garmin USA or Garmin Europe for help.

Resolved!
It was originally Western Europe. I got it fixed though. I was connecting my Garmin using a monitor and as soon as I connected directly to my laptop Garmin Express immediately displayed a message that it successfully installed the new map update. I guess the update installed in the device but there was an error at the very end of the update since the data is not transmitted directly.

Please see the response above. But to answer your question, I purchased it via the Garmin Express app and paid directly there, so it is a digital purchase.

Plug into a USB port that's built-in on the computer as opposed to a USB hub when installing maps or firmware updates...
