3597 software update - FM Traffic

Today Garmin Express offered an update for my 3597LMTHD. It turned out to be a traffic update. The file downloaded was \.system\TrafficProviders.xml. This update may have been available for a while as I haven't checked for updates since the 2017.20 map came out.

This doesn't mean much for me since my local driving area does not have any traffic coverage and I normally don't even use the GTM-60 power supply. But it may be helpful for others.

My old TrafficProviders.xml file was 294KB and dated 10/25/2014. The new file is 296KB. The Version number (in GarminDevice.xml) went from 4.10 to 4.20

I have the same model as you and noticed the update, as well. I wonder if any other Garmin models are affected.

Garmin Drive 61, nuvi 2597MT, too many really.

Question

So the changelog in GE says this version adds support for FM traffic providers in Italy.
Obviously, this does nothing for anyone in NA. But my question is...do new versions of the FM database *also* update the databases for NA in addition to Italy? Or does the update *just* add functionality for Italy?

Missed that.

Didn't see the change log. It probably means that the update is not relevant for NA users. That said, Garmin does not always give a comprehensive list of changes in their change log, so who knows? I certainly don't think applying the update will hurt anything.

Make a backup of \.system\TrafficProviders.xml before you apply the update. Then if something doesn't seem right after the update, it would be easy to revert to the old version.

This update is showing up

This update is showing up for my all devices e.g nuvi 1490, 3597 and Nuvicam. Since this update is for Italy only so I am not in rush to update my devices.

Garmin never gives all the changes made in their release notes. They may have made changes to the North American providers but since the focus was Italy, that's all they documented.

Installed the update on my 2598

No issues. Used GE.

Nuvi 3597 LMT

No 3497 Update

I would have thought that there would be an update for the 3497 as well since it was part of the same series but there is not.

I don't think I have heard of a nuvi 3497 Preroll. Did you mean 3490? If so, that is an older series than the 3597.

Sorry...I zoned on this one. Yes, the 3490. They haven't had an update since March '14. Ho hum...

My 1490 hasn't had an update for ages either but it's an extremely stable device smile
