How I use POI files with Google Maps

I don't see a section for Google Maps, so I felt the need to share how to bring in POI files to a "My Map." Then, on my Android phone, I can set that My Map as the foundation for Google Maps. SOO cool to see my special POIs as I use Google Maps.
Here's a video on how to import POI Factory files to Google My Maps.

I just noticed your past

I just noticed your past posts on using Google Maps on android. We should talk!
Let me know how this goes for you.
After making the My Map, you can select it with Google Maps - Your Places - on the Android app. Now, as you navigate to anywhere, your POIs are with you! You even have the ability to turn on/off layers!
Hope you like it.

Interesting

That procedure certainly helps with one of the issues that I have with Google.

I love your YouTube "GeeksOnTour"

Thanks for this link. I stopped working with Google Maps but after seeing this I am going to start again. I have forgot all I knew and am now relearning thanks to you.

I see you have a lot of other videos on YouTube. I am enjoying watching them.

You mentioned your web site but I could not understand the name of it. Will you post it for me. I would love to see it.
Thanks Mary

Favorites?

Great and simple explanation, thank you. Can you use the same method to import your Garmin Favorites?

Google Maps takes different files

I save my files in .gpx and I have imported several already to Google Maps in the .gpx format.
I put the finles in different different maps to have them like on the Nuvi.
When you go to load the map there is the option for these files
CSV
SLSX
KML
GPX

I worked with this a little a while back but deleted all of it as I did not have it organized. I now have several maps. One for my Businesses (Businesses, Doctors, Transportation)
and a different map for Car shows.
I use style by name and the name is displayed by the icon.

I am in the process of including all my files.
I tried the camera file and received a notice that it exceeded the 5mb limit. I will have to separate the file into several smaller files to see if that works. (That is for another time as I am in the process of fixing the Braums file and it is eating my lunch. grin )

Icon

The only type of icon I could get Google Maps to take was a .jpg.

After seeing your video I am now putting icons on each of My Maps. I have not worked with icons before and this is a learning experience.

Thanks for all your information.

Sounds Neat.

I'll have to try it after I get home from my current trip.
