iPhone 5 Active Mount With Apple iPhone And Garmin StreetPilot Onboard

I have been eyeing up the iPhone 5 Active Mount. I am thinking of getting it, and an Apple iPhone, and installing Garmin StreetPilot Onboard. I have a couple of questions, though.

-Will Apple iPhones work in either landscape or portrait mode?

-Will the mount rotate and hold an iPhone in either landscape or portrait mode?

UPDATE: I found this review and comparison. It does state "Both work in portrait or landscape mode."

I was also looking a bit further on what other iPhones that would work with this. It states "The mount adjusts to fit cases between 58.6 mm and 76 mm wide and up to 12 mm deep."

I checked on the dimensions and all looks to be less than 12 mm deep. With regards to the 58.6 mm and 76 mm width, it looks like iPhone SE, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S would work. However, it looks like the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus are too wide to fit.

Of course the other factor to consider is the case. Some cases, like a Mophie case, would make the entire device to thick to work.

I also see that Mophie makes car mounts for its own cases. Perhaps other case companies make compatible car docks, too.

That review, with the

That review, with the statement "Both work in portrait or landscape mode" refers to the apps, not the iPhone mount.

The mount itself will swivel, since it mounts on a standard Garmin ball mount suction cup. https://buy.garmin.com/en-IE/GB/shop-by-accesories/mounts/ip...

If that's confusing, note that you mixed two separate reviews into one review. One review was for the Garmin apps, where you got the above statement, and the review of the Active Mount.

Just saying.

IPhone Mount

A very simple but effective mount for almost any smartphone that uses a protective case is the RAM magnetic ball mount:

Place a thin piece of steel inside the back of the smartphone case and the phone sticks firmly to the mount. You can then use the wide array of RAM ball mount hardware for almost any application from suction cup to friction bases.

No need to get a new mount whenever you change phones, just put the piece of steel inside the new phones protective case and you're good to go.

Now, after seeing the Ram Apple iPhone Mounts, I think I like these better than some other ones that I have seen.
