Suddenly, my Dezl 770 when plugged in to the car charge cable, or the USB cable to the computer, the Display mode goes to night, 1%. Unplugged, it goes back bright. No matter what time it is.
Settings, Color Auto
Brightness, if the cord is plugged in, it asks for the Garmin cable to change the brightness function and the Brightness is stuck at 1%. Unplugged it goes to whatever you set it to.
I've tried to change the time. I have done several Master Resets and held the power button and reset it that way.
This happened out of the blue while connected to the computer with the mini USB and the GPS was in navigate mode. I need to do something, or I'm out of luck. It is still in warranty.
PEBCAK
Never mind. PEBCAK. Always charge from the vehicle or a PROPER AC charger.

This sounds like a problem
This sounds like a problem with the photocell that controls brightness. Did you try manually adjust the brightness? I don't think my model has auto brightness - will have to look.
Problem I have is that I have to turn up the brightness when wearing sunglasses. The polarized screen not oriented to the polarization of my sunglasses. If this is confusing, try looking at the screen during the day with sunglasses on and turn your hear.
Hope you're able to manually adjust the brightness --- good luck!

If ...
... It's like some nuvis you can adjust the brightness both when it's running on battery and when powered. Try setting the brightness settings under both conditions. Both need setting, as they are different.

See my reply. The battery
See my reply. The battery was so discharged, the computer didn't have enough current to charge it and view it.
I had to connect it to the vehicle and it took 20 minutes with the engine running to charge it enough to recognize the cable.

USB has a low capacity
USB ports have a low capacity compared with the electric current drawn by modern GPS units. The big, bright screen and the fast processor needed to display that screen mean a large current draw. Add that to a depleted battery, and you demonstrated that it "ain't happening."
