Nuvi 2597 restarting

I typically have my 2597 connected all the time. I've noticed lately that when I turn my car off for even a few minutes, the unit goes through a full start-up, i.e. reloads maps etc.

make sure you have good power
Make sure you have a good power connection. The GPS could act like this if the car is shut off and the GPS battery is near-dead. The cigar lighter outlet is a wild card to me - there is no standard for the dimensions of its connection.
Try charging the GPS battery for 5 hours with a cell phone charger rated somewhere near 1000 mA that has a mini-USB connector. If the problem goes away for a while it could indicate that the cigar lighter in the car is intermittent.

Could be the power
Could be the power connection in your Car Receptacle, USB port on the Garmin or the Battery is not holding a charge...........

Does the power stay on when the car is off? How you keep your GPS has a huge effect on battery life. If you make it a habit to leave it on the dash in the sun your battery will cook rather quickly and not last very long. I wouldn't try replacing the battery yourself unless you could get a known high quality battery. You wouldn't want to have the battery catch on fire in your car.
