Long time, but long inactive member has a trip log question - Nuvi 2595LMT

All,
I'm planning a cross country trip and would like to leave my Nuvi 2595LMT running so I can record the entire trip, both ways, in real time. I will not have the ability to save out the archived data points for the log until my return.

My understanding is that the unit will record 10,000 location points before it then saves those points out to an archive file. My understanding is that earlier units could save as many as 20 archived trip log files, equaling 200,000 points.

A few questions:
Does anyone know if the 2595LMT is limited to 20 archived files as well?
How often does the unit record data points? Is it a time thing? Distance? A combination? The entire trip will take place over about 5000 miles and I expect the unit to be on for about 8 days none stop. I don't plan on turning the unit off when we aren't moving, as that is time I want to keep track of too.

My question is will I be able to save the entire trip, or will I lose data points before I get back?

Thanks!
Richard

No worries

I have an older nuvi 500. I took it on a cross country, two week trip of 8000 miles. (more than once) If yours is similar, it shouldn't need more than two archive files. You will easily have the entire trip saved. My nuvi will archive trips as long as there is free memory in the unit. It's currently up to about 45 archive files, last time I looked. If you have had the unit for some time, check out the archive files in Basecamp. You'll see how much is in there, maybe even from when you purchased the unit!

I've noticed

Trip log files are often segmented in that they start and stop with the power. If you are planning on leaving the unit on when doing stops each day, you should have one continuous file for each day. I usually pack my laptop with me on trips to keep up with the important stuff so I would be possible to download the trip log daily but I rarely look at them so I never bother.

Ah. Thanks Camerabob

I 'clean out' my archive files so I have no idea how many would generate. What I found online was 20 files max, so I was curious if that was actually the case.

I usually load them into Google Earth to display the paths.
