It will be interesting to observe these changes on the next map update. I think we have all experienced the wild changes in the estimated time left on past updates. I have seen it go from 30 minutes left to 20 hours ... then back to minutes again.

I really hope that's what it is. The progress bar and time remaining have been ridiculous lately.
My guess is that with all of the different components being downloaded, the progress bar didn't know WHAT to display so it just spazzed out.

I hadn't thought of that but it is a possible cause.
What I had been thinking is that Garmin Express may monitor the MB downloaded in the past minute or so, then computes the remaining download time assuming that download rate over the past minute remains constant for the remaining MB to be downloaded. For the early downloaders of a map update on Day 1 when the Garmin servers are stressed and the download rate for each downloader can vary tremendously over the tens of minutes during the entire download, the remaining time estimation may also vary widely. It's not only the Garmin server load but also your ISP's rate variance to your computer. In any event, I look forward to the next map update to watch the progress bar..
I also oftentimes experienced the loss of my Garmin Express Settings when updating Garmin Express. It'll be nice to see if my Settings will now be preserved with GE version updates.

Only ever experienced that myself once and quite a while back now, never had a problem with settings since then.

It was odd for me. I found that one PC in the past consistently had GE updates lose my settings while other PCs didn't. I never did figure it out. The past few versions of GE haven't shown the problem.
