I see Garmin Smartphone Link for iOS was updated today to version 2.0.1. I had to re-pair my Nuvi and iPhone. I think this thing still needs some work as it often doesn't automatically connect as it should. I'm hoping the new version improves that but so far I'm not that impressed.
I'm not a fan of Garmin's Bluetooth implementations. They seem very brittle, not able to recover from a lot of common errors. My least favorite culprit is their ecoRoute OBD II dongle.
I just noticed the update after reading this post. I am running it on my two iphones. I did not experience any connectivity issues after the update. Garmin needs to fix Bluetooth functionality on Nuvi units. I am still waiting Garmin to fix Bluetooth issues on NUVICAM. Whatever they fixed in this update, must be under the hood fixes..
I don't think the Nuvi Bluetooth works that well, but guess if you have a vehicle without then okay in a pinch - no pun intended...
Not had any significant issues with connectivity. Running the app on an iPhone 6,

Me too. On my NuviCam, SmartLink, even the updated apps, holds a connection to the NuviCam for about a minute. Then, without fail, the NuviCam states, "iOS Services Disconnected", and then my iPhone is disconnected.
As noted previously, the iTunes Store is rife with complaints about the SmartLink's inability to maintain a steady connection.
Is also subject to extreme temps. If it's extremely cold or hot the dongle seems to fail to connect. Then as it warms up, the connect o n becomes intermittent until the tempature is just right!

The SmartPhone Link has been quite reliable with my Android phones. It loses the link once in a great while, a month or two or more. Usually a cold boot or delete/re-pair the link takes care of the problem.
