Hi All,
Happy Holidays!
For quite some time, and through a few upgrades, I do not get a traffic icon on the 3790LMT. I tried resets as well.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation and found any resolve?
On my older nuvi660, you could see on the charger cord if the radio was receiving traffic data. On the power cord for the 3790, all you get is a red power light.
Thanks-
Rob
Could be a bad cord
I have two 3790LMT units. I have observed failure to get the traffic icon from three distinct causes.
The first one is the simple issue of no traffic data being transmitted at the location. I live in Albuquerque New Mexico which is not in the coverage area, so no icon is a normal situation for me.
The second one is simply not waiting long enough. When I had begun to suspect a problem I took both power cords with me on a trip to Los Angeles, meaning to figure out which one worked by swapping. But in Los Angeles it takes many minutes before enough data has been downloaded to light up the icon, and I did not leave either cord connected long enough for that to happen. I am pretty sure I waited more than 5 minutes but probably fewer than 15 minutes. In other locations a shorter time is more than enough.
The third possibility in my case was an actual bad traffic receiver cord. As I had 2 units and 2 cords it was pretty easy to establish by swapping that one of my cords did not receive traffic, and when I got a replacement it worked.

Had this problem one time: Cord
On my 2595 the cord connector had a problem. For a while, just the traffic would go out. Eventually the power/charging got intermittant as well. Garmin sent me a new one at a good discount when I called them. As a side note, I also eventually had problems with the connection on the back: intermittant power loss. I called Garmin and even though it was out of warranty they exchanged it for a refurb at a -very- reasonable price. The power connection on these seems to be a weak spot, especially on a unit where there is no choice but to unplug and connect it all the time.

Replaced my Cable a year ago, had the same issue. Mine doesn't like the heat. In the summer it buzzes a lot. Have to turn volume down and up for it to go away. I imagine leaving it on the cradle with the 90+ temps we had in the Summer did the damage. Lol it did warn me a lot that it needed to shut down because of the heat. It sat in the cradle all day sometimes. It looks like it just might be on the way out. It was a good unit. Can't say the same for my 3590 in my Truck

Spoke too soon
As i'm telling you how i needed to replace my cable on my 3790,
I just noticed my 3590 has no traffic either. Much easier to tell its the cable because it tells you to plug the receiver cable in.
So this one is 3d traffic, gonna have to check to see if its worth the hassle. Of all the Garmins i've owned I've never had any real complaints about any of them. The 3590 is plain Junk.
I'd love to pass this on to someone I do not like.

Old thread, but in case someone is looking for the same issue...
...I eventually bought a new power cord, a GTM36 which replaces the GTM35 that came with the unit. The traffic returned.
A new GTM36 can be found on eBay for approximately $28-35 depending on the outcome of the auction. It is much less than ordering from Garmin.
