I am sure you realize that you can replace the battery in your 1490 for under $20. It is not that hard to do.

That said, I don't blame you for wanting to get a new GPS, and I agree with the recommendations given for a 3597LMTHD. Unless they are sold out, you can get a refurb within your price range at GPS City or theGpsStore.

Go for it and enjoy!

I replaced the battery,

I replaced the battery, about $10.00 on ebay - a LOT cheaper than a new unit. Instructions on youtube.
I also bought a LM card on ebay for about $50. still a lot cheaper than a new unit.
With some of the issues I have read about new units the 1490 looks better all the time.

Not the same way home!

The 2597 is not the only unit that does that, the 3597 will do the same. If you are asking for the fastest route it may have to do with the right/left turns on the two routes.

I can't find it now, but the

I can't find it now, but the different route, in and back, was thoroughly discussed in another thread. And the consensus was left turns, U-turns and traffic.

Different levels of traffic on Nuvi

Is there any advantage of getting the upgraded traffic modules. Either HD or Live traffic over the standard module that comes with the stock one. What advantage do the better give you.

live traffic

Live Traffic essentially replaces the power cord for traffic information. As Live traffic comes through a cell phone connection and the Internet directly from the cloud server, it is updated about every 30 seconds. Reports received from the radio station connection through the power cord can be up to 30 minutes delayed.

There have been quite a few posts here on Garmin traffic including:

If you have a smartphone, and compatible GPSr, Live Traffic via the Smartphone Link app is arguably the best traffic service Garmin offers.

Unless your GPSr came with HD traffic and / or the GTM 60 traffic receiver, the one time $20 subscription for Live Traffic is far cheaper than the $60 cost to add the GTM 60 receiver cable to a compatible GPSr.

I ended up buying a refurbished 2597LMT from GPS City. Thanks for all the recommendations and advice.

Nice unit.

The Nuvi 2597 is a nice unit. Lots of features. Dig into the manual to get information on its full potential. The voice commands are really nice.
