I am in Shock, no more RLC's or SC's in Tucson or Pima County

Pima County got rid of its cam's a while back, not enough profit. Well yesterdays election Tucson Voters voted them out for the City by 60 to 30 percent. They will be offline in about 2 weeks!!!!

Good riddance, finally the City of Tucson will be camera free

grin

Pima county that surrounds the City of Tucson got rid of theirs a while back when after tracking accident rates in the areas where the speed cameras were they found those areas had a higher accident rate by quite a bit more than similar areas that did not have the speed cameras present.

The other factor the County noted was the speed cameras were not generating enough revenue to make it worth while keeping them. So it appears that once they figured out that they were not making money they got rid of them, so much for safety as the main reason for the speed cameras. smile

In addition Pima County had a number of bond issues amounting to almost a billion dollars in spending and higher taxes throughout the County and all of the bond issues failed. Finally the voters have stepped forward and stopped the tax and spend elected officials here in Pima county and the City of Tucson that have had as their only goal to spend as much money on unnecessary things as possible.

that is great news.

if only more jurisdictions made similar decisions.

They will all be gone.

It's gonna be a nationwide removal of those silly things.
The people are waking up. I have never seen the population so awake.
There are powerful forces that want us to be asleep so they can do what they want. That's over now.

Here's a story about the Tucson election.

another point I did not like, No Tickets were issued to Mexicans

They threw out any Mexican plates, true, fair, equal justice!! Not profitable to collect, they let them run RLC's and SC's, funny Officers will still ticket the Mexicans!

New Jersey did

Here in the PA/NJ area they attach an expiration date to the cameras, last year in NJ they let them expire, in the entire state. No moves (that I've heard of) to bring them back. Philadelphia (where most of PAs cameras are) are set to expire next year IIRC, although they tend to renew them each time.

The voters have spoken

If only more voters had the opportunity to vote on these, there would be very few of them around.

a perfect scenario

would be if people continue to stop at the light, and the cams are not turned on. This method seems to work--the cameras are left behind physically, the photo enforced sign is gone, yet people continue to stop as if the cams are still functioning. I have personally observed this scenario.

The city has announced the RLC and SC were turned off today

New update: The city of Tucson has officially announced that the Red Light cameras and Speed Cameras were permanently turned off today in response to the vote on Tuesday.

As I said, I'm in shock

I call Tucson "San Francisco, Arizona" so between the Cam vote and the Billion Dollar Bond vote all going down, wow! So they turned them off before the Votes were finalized on Friday, maybe they see we the People are fed up and not gonna take much more!!

What other laws can some violate that we have to toe the line on

Isn't that ridiculous?
That the fines are only for locals, if you are from out of state, Canada or Mexico, you get a pass.

What other laws can some violate that we have to toe the line on?

I think its only the Mexicans, if Canadian gets pic taken they expect them to pay up!!!

Unfair.

It's really unfair having some people exempt from troublesome laws. It should be unconstitutional, actually.

Um.. Er...Uh...

I don't think anyone is "EXEMPT" but really how much it would cost to recover any monies due because of a citation from an automated device.

Now if the cop actually stops the offender and the municipality mandates the offender must pay all penaltiea associated with the infraction prior continuing on with their journey, now that's quite another matter!

Ahhh to hear, "Book em' Danno' being benched out by the Louisiana or Pensevania St. Police just doesn't have quite the propper ring to it! razz

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Unfair

It is unconstitutional, but "they" don't care. Laws are sometimes not applied equally.

Was College student here, Killed a young lady in DUI wreck on River Road, place called Dead Mans Curve, skipped the State. County Prosecutor declined prosecuting him because it would Cost too much to convict him, "Justice is Blind"!!!

can you

Please cite the law where it's unconstitutional

August Busch IV 1983 accident, I remember it well

August Busch IV was a 19 year old student at the UofA and killed his date Michele Frederick in 1983 when he lost control on that reverse tilt curve and rolled his corvette killing the girl while he walked away with minor injuries.

I think that he got off because the girls parents came to his defense (after they received a huge settlement from his family that owned Anheuser-Busch).

I have driven my vettes though there back then and it was definitely a very dangerous curve if you were going to fast you easily could loose control or roll the car.

Great move

As I said in another thread, this is a great move. Now in Arizona, we have the most restrictive city (Paradise Valley) and the loosest one (Tucson)

give the people what they want

If people want lawlessness, let's go back to the days where you could challenge the right for the love of a maiden, down went his hand for the gun that he wore....

You know, every single time I drive 87S (Major Deegan Expressway) to the GW Bridge, there are vehicles running up the right side and cutting in at the barrier for the bridge. Many times, the vehicles have 5 axles with a 53' trailer. That's about as close to lawlessness as you can get. When it means saving 10 min., you better belive a commercial driver (and many non-commercial) will take that advantage.

It would be quite simple to video in 1080p vehicles who cross a solid line, and fine them $480. But the law does not allow for it.

Seems like > 50% of the people on this section of the forum are against technology fixing such a scenario. That's fine. But once the Constitution is mentioned, it's ludicrous.

They shipped them all to DC

They shipped them all to DC and Maryland

Here In Chicago, It's the Opposite

We seem to be on the fast track to putting more and more in. Not only red light cameras, but speed cameras as well.

Of course, they're not just to bring in revenue, right? It's surely about the safety.

(ack - cough)

--
And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

what difference does it even make

I spent one week in Chicago in July, with the da** Garmin going off all the time--I unplugged it after the first day.

Unless the rental car co. messed up (they do not I got autotolls), I didn't get any tickets. Must be that I didn't run any lights.

How stupid is the argument, really?

Target and Costco are watching my every move in their stores, even analyzing foot traffic. Oddly, they never caught me for shoplifting. Why would it bother me that they are watching me?

When people say $40 in MD is a money grab, I think the comment is stupid. Do they want the fine for a serious violation to be 99 cents? This is the internet, people love to play armchair quarterback anonymously (besides their IP being logged)

and for that matter

maybe we will move to the north shore in the future, houses are still cheap compared to the East Coast

Nice!

Wish it was that way across the USA! Let's hope!
