Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – October 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Tour of Honor

Wow, hard to believe October is upon us already. In the final month for the 2015 Tour of Honor Memorial ride.

Planning a few more memorial visits in central Texas. Weather is teasing us with cooler temps making for some really nice riding.

I was jut offered Nevada as my next assignment, so I'm considering it! Long drive from Fla, gotta update the Garmin

Take I-75 N and turn left at I-10. Turn right at !-25, left at I-40 and right on US93.

That seems to be a lot quicker route..Thank you!

From East TN to Hershey. After the first few turns till I got on I-81 it said 450 miles then turn right. smile

The southern route would be better for weather (and tolls).

Little Nuvi took us...

over to Cousin's place in CA with one strange thing. Tried to get us to take alternate route through mountains from bad traffic data. Ignored suggested alternate and made the trip with no issues.

Last Trip

Westminster Md.to Warrensburg New York

Home....

...from Vancouver, Whistler, Abbotsford, Bellingham, Vancouver. Nuvi 50 provided excellent guidance, except...
...why did it show 'below sea level' by as much as 150 feet in some areas? If it was based on an aneroid function I could understand it, but from satellite readings? Satellite signal reflection caused by the Rockies?
Some of my older Garmin devices showed how many satellites were being used but I have not found that function on the Nuvi 50.

Trip

Just back from a 17 day cruise. We started in San Francisco, stopped in LA, then went on from there. We ported in Nicaragua (San Juan del Sur), Costa Rica (Puntarenas), [spent a full day transiting the Panama Canal], Columbia (Cartegena), Aruba (Oranjestad), and then finished up in Fort Lauderdale.

Sadly, it's back to work on Monday. That 5:30 AM alarm is going to be brutal!

Agawa Canyon Fall Colour Tour

Drove to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and caught the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. Left Kitchener, crossed at Port Huron.

Followed part of wheels_up, Michigan Fall Colour Tour along Hwy 23. Colour change was way behind this year so not much clour change on this portion.

Had about 50-60% change along the train route, which is about 114 miles up and the same back. Interesting trip, but the return trip gets a bit boring, since you've seen it all before.

Highly recommend the Bush Plane Heritage Museum, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Las Vegas

Drove to Las Vegas with a buddy for the Supras in Vegas car show.
The Garmin did well.
I don't smoke or drink so found the general hotel/casino atmosphere not that pleasant. Played some slots and lost the amount I designated for that activity. Visited Hoover Dam, hung out by the pool, got a pic with the Statue of Liberty made out of Twizzlers. Only show I made was The Book of Mormon The Musical, which is there for 2 weeks on tour. Saw a newlywed couple, the bride in her full wedding gown regalia, veil et al and the groom carrying a 24 pack of Bud Lite. Keeping it classy. razz
Happy to be home.

Change in plans

Two Directions

Went to a new Dr's office and the GPS used a different route on the return trip. Avoided the left turns across the 4 lanes.

Back from

running in Long Beach.

Made good time, but GPS rebooted at least twice.
