Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – September 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Motorcycle/GPS testing....

Trying to adapt one of my 1479 LMTs (I have two) to use on my Harley. Got the waterproof case and handlebar mount, but I don't like the way it bounces around (or the position).

I have a Road Glide, and I've ordered a different aftermarket windshield (Freedom Shield) that should allow me to mount it right above the radio (windshield is about two inches taller and not as raked back). If it works out, the GPS will be right below my line of sight without blocking any of my view and it will be directly behind the windshield....the perfect spot.

Looking forward to seeing if it all works together.

Just Loaded the Red Light Camera Files

Just loaded the red light camera and speed camera files.

Now I need to find a camera zone to test them on. Nearest one is 100 miles away.

Hope it works right the first time....

Testing.

No need to drive 100 miles to test. Put your nuvi in simulation mode, Find a route that contains one or more cameras. Set your current location to one end of the route and select the other end as the destination. Then simulate navigating the route to see if your alerts are working as expected.

Crazy things happening on the roads--

Wild stuff over the weekend with closures on major Silicon Valley freeways -- but with the Nuvi along to navigate, it's bail and head the general direction of home, ignoring its suggestions to get back on the (closed and jammed) freeway...

I have never used detour but wouldn't it take you a different way if you punched it at the closures

There used to be really good places to eat there in Whitecourt, but it's been so long, I really don't know if it's still there, I think it was called the Green Gables Inn, and then even it's still there, I don't know if it's the same..they had a dessert called Flappers Pie..yummy..and there is a place in the mall that had some excellent Chinese food...

Handheld GPS

I know this is mostly a vehicle GPS site, but I was doing a photojournalism assignment yesterday with Florida Forest Service rangers on one of the last remaining fire towers in Central Florida in the Green Swamp. After my assignment I had some down time and I used my trusty handheld Garmin Colorado 400C to find an old gopher tortoise den I had marked and tracked about four years ago. The den was still active and the tortoise was nearby.

I'm doing a little research for a new GoPro camera, nature project on nests, dens, and burrows.
