That FAQ is for a Garmin device. Is the procedure the same for a Rand McNally GPS?
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

Just tried this procedure. It does not work on a Rand McNally Device.

Rand McNally models can import custom POI files, but they do not support adding custom icons or sounds.
At present, the only option is to choose from a limited set of built-in icons. These can be set on the GPS under the "Manage Custom POIs".
