A Garmin "feature" That I Miss

With my other Garmins, if I wanted to located all POIs near a location, I would enter a destination, then do a search near destination, BUT leave it blank when I did the search. That would find a number of POIs near my destination. I found that to be quite handy. On my Nuvi 3597, however, I have been unable to find a way to do that. Does anybody happen to know if there is a workaround for this?

Are

Are you wanting to see ALL POIs near your destination from all categories or from a specific category? Are you attempting to list POIs from the built in map data or from your loaded Custom POIs?

If it's all custom POIs, enter your destination and then tap Where To and on the Where To screen tap the black box in the upper right and corner of the screen, that reads Searching Near .... On the Search Near screen, tap My Destination. Then select Custom POIs - All Categories. The Nuvi will list all custom POIs you have installed from the one nearest your entered destination.

If it's just a specific category of your custom POIs that you want to see, do the same as above but select just the required category instead of All Categories.

Both of these assume you have your Custom POIs in categories, such as restaurants, gas stations, etc. and that you have Custom POIs as a shortcut on your Where To Search screen.

If it's built in POIs you want to see, enter your destination and then tap Where To and on the Where To screen tap the black box in the upper right and corner of the screen, that reads Searching Near .... On the Search Near screen, tap My Destination.

Then tap Where To - Categories. You can then select any of the categories listed and All what ever the category is (All restaurants, all shopping, for example) and all the built in POIs for that category will be listed.

I can't think of anyway to list all built in POIs from all categories at one time.

If you don't have your Custom POIs in categories and don't have the Custom POI shortcut on the search screen you could list all custom POIs near your destination by following the procedures for listing built in POIs but instead of selecting a POI category, scroll down the category screen and you should find a Custom POI entry under Other Categories.

I miss when you can flip the antenna and go into simulation mode. It's now taking a million clicks to get there.

I count 5 clicks from the WhereTo menu on my 3597 ... Settings > Navigation > down arros > GPS simulator > OK. Granted, it is not as quick and easy as flipping the antenna, but not all that bad IMO. smile

Since the 2595 is many years newer than the 1390, wouldn't this be a Garmin feature that you have "gained" and not one that you "miss"? laugh out loud

I miss the lock screen

that would not let you in unless you entered your code or were at home. It seems kinda stupid to remove that as it is now too easy for anybody to access all your info if it is stolen.

Recalculating, icons.

I am one of those (apparently in the minority) that misses the "Recalculating" alert when you go off route. I also hate the ugly large generic waypoint icons and would love to have the normal customizable icons back.

It used to annoy the heck out of me. North of the Mexico border I have my GPS set to avoid toll roads like the plague. Once I drive in Mexico I take every toll road on my route. If I forgot to change the toll road avoidance I got the "recalculating" constantly until I realized why that was happening.

Recalculating

As Joni Mitchell sang in Big Yellow Taxi
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone

Now all I hear is "In 50 meters, make a U-Turn"

I bought a 65LM last year to replace a broken 760. No recalculating prompt, it just does it. Last week, it said it was recalculating. I wonder if a firmware update put it back?

I'll Try on My 2460 and 3580

Will try on mine too.

I miss it only because it made you realize you missed a turn. Now it is not always clear.

Recalculating needs to be back

The trip we went several miles, I think 50, further because we missed out turn and didn't know it because there was no warning that Jill was recalculating.
Recalculating warning is an important part of the unit that needs to be back.

Recalculating on Nuvi 65LM?

That's very odd that Recalculating alerted you on a Nuvi 65LM. I was under the belief that feature was discontinued on all the newer model Nuvi's.

If your curious you can copy the voice you are using from your Nuvi to a temporary folder on your PC. The open up the file with TurboCCC "TTS Voice Editor". If recalculating is available, it should be listed there with the option to change the phrase.
You can get TTS Voice Editor here:
http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/TTSVoiceEditor

I suspect it is not shown in what's available to change the phrase to, most likely some bug in the firmware.

I too miss Recalculating unlike many others that found it annoying. I like being told I made a mistake (happens often) so I can learn from them. wink
