If

If the map update ever get released you will probably have the firmware update forced on you when you update the maps.

Unless of course

You edit the GarminDevice.xml file which is simple to do and 100% efficient wink

P.S. If anyone is interested in how to avoid a forced software update let me know within this thread and I'll share with you DorkusNimrods method which I've used many times in the past and which works to perfection grin

I just upgraded my unit.

I just upgraded my unit. Lets see if it makes any difference to overall performance.

Thanks

Thanks.

Wow

◦Fixed an issue that caused the Weather map tool to show the current temperature as -2147483648.

I really wish I had seen this at least once. I didn't think it possible to drop below absolute zero. confused Unless maybe the temp was measured with some temperature scale unknown to me. wink

Although

Although it's possible to avoid the forced update I'm not sure why you would need to anymore. It used to be common for a firmware update to cause all sorts of havic and thanks to folks like DorkusNimrod (Serg) we had away to control when and if we actually performed the deed. On the other hand, when was the last time a firmware update caused any issues at all, at least on the 3597? Garmin seems to have got a pretty good handle on this process these days.

IMHO there is little reason any longer to avoid firmware updates on these newer Nuvi models.

Rick I was correcting your misleading statement

We all know that in every single profession/business, mistakes/errors do happen. In my initial post I stated that I would sit back and see how this new software update behaved in order to save myself time & trouble in the event that the new firmware was faulty.

Your initial post to this thread stated that:

I wanted to make a correction that there was a workaround on getting the forced update you were stating and mentioned the GarminDevice.xml file trick that one could use IF needed

Just a few weeks ago Garmin released the Time zone map update which was faulty and by having sat back a few weeks before installing it I saved myself a bit of unneeded hassle.

I generally wait 2 weeks before doing my monthly patch Tuesday update on my computers therefore with Garmin or with any other company that pushes out an update I’ll do the same.

No problems seen so far

I allowed Garmin Express to update my 3597 and then used it on a 300 mile trip and saw nothing different in my normal use of the device so far. The good news is I have nothing negative to report on this recent update.

3597 LMTHD Upgrade

Upgraded my 3597 to 5.00 and no problems..

It seems to do a better job of centering the screen (and auto zoom level) to keep the white arrow denoting an upcoming turn in better view.

Charging cable problem

Hi everyone. I recently upgraded to the new software (5.00) and now the unit is telling me that the cable I have been using to charge it is not allowed anymore... Anyone encountering this issue?

Picky about chargers/adapters

This occurred on the 3597 with software release 4.50 where Garmin changed the detection scheme for the power adapter/charger and the 3597 became very picky about what plugged into it. Read all the ugly details here ... http://www.poi-factory.com/node/43416
