Backup Camera (any recommendations?)

Anyone with a backup camera care to post a review? I have a Nuvi 3950 and covet a larger screen and a back up camera. Can anyone give some advice and recommendations?

Thanks,

Mike

I was thinking the same thing

BC 20 or BC 30

Unfortunately, your 3590 isn't compatible with any Garmin backup camera products. If you are looking for a unit with a 7" screen, I highly recommend the Nuvi 2798 with BC 20 camera package.

The unit is available at GPS City for $349:

Or Amazon for $346:

Other GPS units compatible with the BC20:

I owned 2798 briefly before trading up to an RV760. The BC20 camera was easy to install and generates a near perfect picture of whats going on behind you. I quickly came to rely on the camera and at present, I'm using another BC20 with my RV760.

Garmin also offers the newer BC30 camera which is compatible with many of their newer GPSr's. The main advantage of the BC30 over the BC20 is the ability to use multiple cameras with some GPS units.

The BC30 is compatible with these GPSr's:

If a back up camera is not

If a back up camera is not integrated with reverse gear, it's not that convenient. It's like a lane departure warning on a car DVR not integrated with turn signal.

Backup Cam

i have been thinking about buying a dedicated backup cam .i noticed the one i'm looking at said it detects when you backup...anybody know how. I would like for it to be on all the time ...prob work better than a rearview mirror

are wired to the backup lights so they are only energized when the lights turn on when you go to reverse.

Garmins BC20 and BC30 cameras can be wired to remain on all the time or just when the vehicle is in reverse. In my case, I wired the BC20 to the left tail light housing and connected it to the parking lamp lead. That way, the camera comes on when I turn on the parking lights. You can then use the GPS to toggle back and forth between the camera view and nav screens.

On some vehicles with a trailer wiring harness, the camera can be wired to the "hot" lead. That way the camera can be on all the time without having to turn on the parking lights.

The camera can also be wired for reverse only operation by connecting to the backup lamp lead.

It would be helpful to have split screen capability with camera and nav screens similar to the Junction View feature. Perhaps Garmin will offer that option in the future.

wiring

you would think it was wired with backup lights but this one plugs in cigarette lighter or power port...wallyworld has several. i think monitor has 2 video inputs. comes with several ft rca cable

only the latest model

only the latest model supports backup camera.
