Voice Command getting stuck

I've noticed that sometimes, the following sequence of events will happen:

"Voice Command"
Please say a command
"Find Place"
Speak the name of a popular place
"walmart"
Did you Say 'Walmart?'
"yes"
Searching for Walmart.
Please select a line number:
"One"
...
"One"
...

It gets to that point and it understands that I say "1" (I think, I believe it makes a ding) but it doesn't start my route. Even if I tap on the line, nothing happens.

Has this happened to anyone before? It isn't every time, just sometimes that this happens and I haven't been able to pin down a pattern of when it does happen.

Did you try a reset?

What Model Nuvi?

You don't indicate what your model is. It would also be helpful to list the model(s) in your profile.

Does this only happen with Walmart locations or other POI's provided in the mapset?

Sorry guys, it;s a 2597!

Sorry guys, it;s a 2597! And can I reset it without losing data?

And walmart was an example, I don't know that it's ever done it with walmart. I have not been able to identify a pattern as to what/when/where it happens.

Do you have the latest updates? The supplied manual requires you to say navigate after you select the line number. When I tried it on my Nuvi 2597 after selecting the line number it came back with command.Would you like to navigate to the location?I said yes and it worked with no problem. Having the latest update on my unit may account for the difference in what the manual requirements are.
WebUpdater can be found at http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99... .Make sure to also check the second page for mor updates.

Yes, the problem is that

Yes, the problem is that when it gets stuck, I don't get to the Navigate screen (with the big green navigate button on one side and the local map on the other side). If I get to that point, then it works fine, but the problem occurs when I can't get to that point.

Voice command Lockup

I've had my 3597 voice command lockup once. Turned off and back on and everything worked fine.

Hard reset

If this happened to me and the problem remains after a full power down/power up cycle, I'd see if a hard reset will fix things, assuming that you've already updated to the latest Garmin software through WebUpdater or Garmin Express as already suggested:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136

The only thing to backup before doing the reset is your Favorites (Saved Places), as explained in the link.

Favorites

If you do the hard reset use this link first to backup your favorites and to install them back http://www.poi-factory.com/node/36164.

Edit Found this little bit of info you may want to try before the reset. Also for others this video gives some info on using the Voice Command https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skmARb_bRrQ

To restore the speech recognition file:

Follow the steps listed in the article linked here to download, install and run Garmin Express
Connect the device to the computer with a USB cable
Follow the on-screen instructions to add your device (if prompted), or select your previously saved device
Click Tools
Expand Language Files under Optional Updates
Select the desired language(s)
Click Install Now

The download will start automatically. When the download completes, an "updates complete" message will appear near the top of the Garmin Express window.

First time use

I have just got back from a week long road trip to the USA and I tried the voice command feature on my 2797 for the first time.
I thought that road noise or other sounds would make it a bit hard to use but I found it very easy. I had watched the GPS city video prior to my trip so I had a rough idea on how it should work. The only difference I found was that my unit spoke back the options unlike in the video which was silent.
I found it a lot easier to use voice command to find places rather than do a manual search via zip codes or addresses.
I hope you get your problem solved (you are in the right place for that) as voice command is a really neat feature.

hmmmmmmm....

Well... Have you thought about having a conversation with those helpful folks at Garmin?

If you did, did they offer any suggestions or were they simply dumbfounded?

Did they offer to perform an autopsy on its corpse?

installing the language

installing the language files on the garmin updater seems to have fixed the problem, haven't encountered the problem at all this weekend!

Thanks for reporting back. Sounds like it must have been a bad file. Glad to hear you have corrected the problem.
