Will you be driving? If so, do you want Junction Views and other features not offered on the "Europe on SD card" map?

If you want JVs, etc., consider buying a nuvi with Europe as the default internal map. If the European map device purchase is for a device with lifetime maps, I imagine that if you have no more need for it after you return to North America that you could sell it on ebay and recover some of the expense.

Hmm, speaking of ebay, if you do buy the Garmin map of Europe as a SD card map, it also could be sold on ebay if you have no need for Europe after returning home.

Something else to consider is you can charge the unit from an extended battery pack such as those used for cell phones. It can also be recharged from a USB port on your computer or from any in an Internet Cafe. Decently sized battery packs aren't expensive and they do come in handy. I have a 6 amp (6000 mA) size I picked up at Best Buy.

No, I will not be driving but do a fair amount of walking around strange to me cities so I can find my way back to a hotel. Thats why I want to take the 3790, light and easy to pack.
Also not taking a computer but an iPad only.
Yes, I have several mains to USB adapters 1000Mha output and they are fairly light as well.

Limited to 50lb baggage, so careful what to pack.
