I'm the creator and maintainer of the Gander Mtn. POI file. I just updated this POI today, but then noticed this comment that I hadn't seen before. It's in the "Change History" section:
charlesd45 - Jan 17, 2015
What the heck is that? I thought that I was the only one with the authority to update my POI files or add sound files to it (well, except for maybe Jon or Globe Turtle).
Charlesd45, did you access this POI and add a sound file to it? Can any of us add sound files of our choice to everyone else's POI's?
I would think that as a courtesy we should at least ask permission before we go changing or adding things to someone else's POI's.
I don't see where anyone has accessed your POI file. IMHO charlesd45 submitted a Wav file to complement your POI file and the moderators made it available to all of us as your current POI file did not have a wav associated to it. This completes the POI package as there is now a POI file, a BMP for the icon and a Wav or MP3 for a sound file so that it could be used with the POI file on either older or newer Nuvi's.
Wouldn't allowing charlesd45's submission be the same as toyfountain submitting a mp3 file on Apr 9, 2008 or plunder sending in a bmp file on Jan 14, 2008?
Again, IMO, you should probably thank charlesd45 for adding value to your work on the POI file as it saves all of us that use your POI file from coming up with a wav for it on our own.
I agree. My FAQ has never been changed by the moderators, but a long-term Forum Topic has had links added to it. This to me is an enhancement.
Maybe instead of airing out in public you should have sent a message to charlesd45 first only to find out he did a favor for you and the community rather than make what IMO is a complete over reaction public.
This happens on a lot of files, not just yours and it's nothing added to the file.
Why don't you send an email to the moderators (like I did) before you go off the handle?
The "change history" section is but a scratchpad listing the changes made to the POI. In this case, as noted, Charles made a WAV file that was subsequently linked to the POI file. Please note that other than yourself, only two people on this forum can make changes and note them in the change history: JM and Angela.
One of the little-used functions of the change history is the ability to note who actually prompted the change. For example, in Historic Ships, I have a contribution by "oldboy" in it, as he provided me with the locations of some ships I didn't have. So I added his name to the change history.
Either JM or Angela linked Charles' WAV file with your POI file, and noted it in the change history. No need to get all bent over it.
I took all the mp3 files and made a wav file to match it.Lots of posts asking for the conversion to wav files for custom pois. I submitted the wav files to POI Factory and they decided where to put them. You should address this with the moderator by email.

Cleaning up the Sound Alert Library
Just a heads up that I’m cleaning up the sound alerts a bit.
As I've been adding the WAV files Charlesd45 sent in, JM has asked me to attach specific sound files like McDonald’s, to the McDonald’s POI file page, removing the sound from Alert Sounds Library.
We are hoping to dwindle the Alert Sounds Library down to only generic sounds such as Art Gallery, etc. making it much more manageable.
This will take a while so I appreciate your patience.
Let me know if you have any questions.
As mentioned above. JM has asked me to clean up the sound file library and add all sound files (WAV & MP3) as well is BMP's if I notice them, to their specific files if possible.
The notation is to give credit to the person who contributed the attachment.
If you have questions please contact me.
Shame on you.....lol
Plunder hasn't been heard from again! I wonder why?
It's all good my friends.
I asked a question, got an answer and moved on. Is your question intended to be confrontational or are you merely curious? And FWIW, I've made other posts since then. Thanks for asking.
The only stupid question around here is the one you didn't ask. We should encourage posters to ask questions.
