I see that todays Best Buy weekly ad is showing the 5" screen sized top of the line Garmin nüvi 3597LMTHD units are available online and in some stores for $329.99.
Checked inventory here in Tucson and it showed 4 stores with unit is stock including one very near to me in Oro Valley.
I have seen many posts on here regarding the unit being discontinued a while back and no longer available.
Has been discontinued for quite a while. IMO it is probably the best Nuvi Garmin has produced. I dearly love mine even with its quirks compared to the other voice controlled unit many consider an extremely good unit, the 855/885.
Sounds like the found some in the warehouse. Check out The GPS Store also. A few on here recommended that site and they had a good price on a refurb.
It would be interesting to know where they got enough new ones again to be able to offer them not only on line but in stock in the stores also. Maybe Garmin decided to put the model back into production rather than develop another top of the line unit.
I might have bought one if I was not already so happy with my 3790LMT and the Viago app in my smartphone and tablet.
Thanks for the info....
I've been thinking about getting a 3597.
Is going to be my next unit that I get, even tho it's been discontinued, I like all the bells and whistles
Back in January 2015 I started a new job delivering medical supplies in a 5 county area here in middle Tn. I was told to get a Tom Tom so I got a VIA1605. As it turned out I have multiple stops daily in multiple towns and counties and my Tom Tom can only do 3 via and one trip. I love my VIA 1605 but, needed a trip planer so I don't zig zag all over the place. About 3 weeks ago I was calling Garmin and was told about the 3597 and found one in stock at Best Buy for $329. so I got it. I used it for 3 days and loved it and called Garmin again and they told me the 3597lmthd was discontinued and the Nuvi 2599lmthd was better. I returned the 3597 to Best Buy and ordered the 2599 on Amazon. Now for me the Garmin Nuvi 2599lmthd is just right for what i'm doing and needing. Tim
Welcome and thanks for the report.
I have a question for you. The owners manual
shows a new-to-me mounting system (the cradle from the socket for the ball to the connection at the back of the nuvi proper). How easy is it to remove the nuvi from the cradle, something that most folks will do each time they leave their vehicle? It's not a magnetic mount, is it? Is it some kind of twist and snap? I also see that the 2599 requires the power cord to connect directly to the nuvi rather than the cradle so that each removal/installation of the nuvi will require a cable disconnection/connection.
Since you had a few days use with a 3597, can you offer a comparison of it with your 2599?
These are for the 2597, should be the same. Non powered mount.
It takes a bit of getting used to. To easily remove the unit, fingers on the top, thumb on the bottom and using the thumb, depress the tab. Connecting the unit, is a little harder, yo have to match that big ring up. The part with the tab stay connected to the swivel ball. It will work on any mount with the Garmin swivel ball.
I've owned a number of Garmins and consider the 3597 refurb to be the best deal I've had. Great unit, great price, looks new, works like a new one with the same warranty.
After talking to Garmin tech support about what models had trip planner I asked what the model numbers were and after checking around I found the Prestige Nuvi 3597lmthd for sale at Best Buy and bought it on Friday and returned it 8 days later. I returned it because I called Garmin tech support and asked about trip planner in more detail and was told the Nuvi 2599lmthd did the same and more than the Prestige 3597lmthd. I asked what were the differences of the two? Well what more is follow this link https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/product/compareResul...
I will tell you that the 2599 has foursquare and
Direct Access and the 3597 does not have that.
The 3597 has a metal body and glass screen and the really nice magnet back where the usb cable connects to for easy on/off. The 2599 has a plastic body and screen and the windshield mount is plastic and you have to disconnect the usb cable every time.
Truth be told I loved the 3597 and could have done with out the 2599 but, Garmin tech support told me the 3597 was discontinued when I talked to them the second time and I felt the money I spent on the 3597 $329. discontinued and the $269. for the 2599 not discontinued and more frills was a savings of $60 but Amazon charged $24. for shipping and tax in my location soooo a savings of $36.
I tried hard to learn about the different models before buying heck at the very beginning I was told to get a Tom Tom so I bought the VIA1605 and it didn't have trip planner but that is for the Tom Tom forum...I do love using my 2599 it's great and i'm done trying to find the ultimate gps.
Hope this helps you. Tim
