Traffic and alerts

On a short trip to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. I was able to see how two features worked on my Garmin Nuvi 2597. I was notified verbally that along my route was a traffic problem. Plus the pop up with info on the right side of the main screen. During the navagation apparently the traffic cleared up and I was again verbally notified the traffic along the route was cleared. Like the feature once a problem is reported and then after getting cleared you get the notification.

On the way back home the alert went off for a Sonny's BBQ location. The top screen with the notification retracted back to the right just like the school zone alert does. Touched the small retraction still showing and got the go option for the Sonny'y. Don't recall that being on my 265 unless you touched the icon.

Can you confirm something

Those are pretty cool features.

This is off topic but I'm hoping you can help.
In the post beneath yours is one by new member violetxoxox. She is considering buying a 2597LMT but it MUST have the voice of Daniel available.
Did your 2597 come with the the Daniel TTS3 loaded? If not can she downolad the English language pack using Garmin Express to get it.

Kindly respond to her thread and advise if Daniel is available on the 2597 since her model selection depends on it.

Thanks

traffic and alerts

Yes Charlie, it happens all the time when you have Smartlink traffic. It even happened a few times with just the HD traffic for me.

The only male voice that I am aware of is the English American Jack TTS3 for my 2597.I ran WebUpdater and nothing came up.Didn't try Garmin Express because it always reinstalls items that I have removed.

Update, after looking at the other thread. I went to Dashboard and the voice showed up for download on my 2597 Voice, British-English, Daniel (TTS3)

@Charlesd45

Thanks for the confirmation and posting it on the other thread.
I apologize for hijacking your thread, I just wanted to help another member.

How/why did the nuvi know to alert you to a Sonny's BBQ? Is this a request you made? Why any commercial alerts? Why Sonny's? How many other establishments will cause an alert? If this isn't under the owner's control, I think I'd hate this.

check the poi files

Like Box Car posted I maintain that file. I have a along the route alert set for 1 1/2 miles to go off.By the way they have excellent BBQ.The main reason I posted about it was the retracting like school zones and I could select go. To me that is a nice feature I didn't know I had.

Ah, so it's the shrinking not the alert's presence. I'm relieved. I gather that it will occur for any Custom POI that has alerts set, standard or Tourguide...or maybe a TourGuide is different.

Traffic

Another observation today on traffic on my 2597. First time I had ran into heavy traffic report. Going down I-4 today I receive the traffic voice message heavy traffic ahead. Will add 8 minutes to arrival time. Looking at the arrival tab. Sure enough 8 minutes was added. Last part of message was that the route that I was on is the fastest. Looking at the screen the traffic page appeared showing on right of screen .Data on screen showed delay time and the time in minutes when I would arrive at the congested area. Once I got close the screen showed road with yellow color turning into red color for entering the high traffic area. I like the way this was done by Garmin. Based on the 8 minute delay being added to the arrival time shows it did adjust based on the delay reported.

Also on 3597

The 3597 behaves in the same way when SmartLink is active (I use it all the time on long trips) If the delay is long enough it will automagically take a detour or give you that option depending on how your preferences are set.

In my case the last message was that I was on the fastest route. So I took it as no detour available . My settings are for allowing the option to select detour once a traffic problem is identified. Thanks for the info.

it's really a poor assumption

All the message "you are on the fastest route" means is it has no information about traffic on any available alternates. Sometimes it does mean there is no alternative, but I know from personal experience here in the DC area there are always "bail-outs" for the major routes. The key is knowing exactly where the block is. During "rush" a tailback builds to a couple miles in less than 5 minutes and bailing out on a side street early is always wise.

Correct answer from Garmin support.

Will my nuvi, Camper/RV, dezl or zumo device automatically calculate a new route to avoid traffic?

The Optimize Route settings allow a choice for how a device will respond when encountering a traffic incident. Devices with this option can choose between:

On Request - In the event of a traffic incident an on-screen prompt will appear offering the ability to route around the delay.

Automatic - The device will automatically calculate an alternative route if it will save sufficient time. The device will only automatically change the route if the traffic delay is greater than 15 minutes, and if the alternate route will save more than 15 minutes.

To change the Optimize Route settings:

1. Touch Settings 2. Touch Traffic 3. Touch Optimize Route 4. Select On Request or Automatic 5. Touch Save

Once the preferred option is saved the device will respond accordingly when encountering a traffic incident. It is only possible to change this setting while connected to a vehicle with the included traffic receiver/vehicle power cable.

With either setting the device will automatically locate a new route if a road closure is detected.

This feature is available on models that include traffic alerts in the following series:

nuvi 55/56 series nuvi 57/58 series nuvi 60 series nuvi 2407 series nuvi 2408 series nuvi 2507 series nuvi 2508 series nuvi 2509 series nuvi 2609 series nuvi 2707 series nuvi 2708 series nuvi 2709 series nuvi 3507 series Camper/RV 760 dezl 570 dezl 770 zumo 590

Does the estimated time of arrival change to reflect the traffic delay on my route?
Whenever the device reports traffic along your route, your estimated time of arrival (ETA) will update to take this into consideration.

Example: If your ETA is 4:00 PM and there is a 15 minute traffic delay reported along your calculated route, the ETA would update to 4:15 PM.

is smartlink always "on"? I don't always get voice telling me there is traffic ahead. I have never gotten a voice telling me the traffic was cleared ahead.

One Caveat

On my 2597, it will accept that particular change without the Traffic Cable being connected.

Just checked and you are right if you are referring to changing the optimized route setting without traffic cable. Is your traffic receiver built in on your 2597? The one I have is.

Since I have lifetime traffic, I think it's built in. But the unit will still gripe about not having the power cable connected if I try to look at anything else traffic related.
