Voices from 750 to 2555lmt

I upgraded my Nuvi 750 to a 2555 LMT. Since the 2555 only had one voice, I transferred my favorite voice from the 750 to the 2555. It works except she won't say, "Recalculating" any more. I only did it a couple of days ago so I'm not sure what else is missing but she says street names when I tested it.
That is important to my Wife... What have I done wrong and/or can I fix it? It is the Aussie/Karen voice.
Thanks...

No more recalculating prompt

Garmin removed the voice prompt "Recalculating" from all of the newer Nuvis, including your 2555LMT. So regardless of what voice you're using, it won't say it anymore. There is no way to change this, at this time.

From Garmin

Why doesn't my device tell me it's recalculating when I miss a turn?

Most Garmin devices will verbally inform you that they're recalculating your route if you miss a turn or veer off the calculated route. Devices that no longer verbally indicate that they're recalculating your route are as follows:

nuvi 2400 series
nuvi 2405 series
nuvi 2505 series
nuvi 3400 series
nuvi 3500 series
LIVE 2300 series
nuvi 30
nuvi 40
nuvi 50
dezl series
Please note that although newer devices will no longer speak the word, "Recalculating," they will still recalculate your route as needed.

Hope you can tell me how you did the "transfer". Thank you

Yesterday is history , today a gift and tomorrow a mystery

download voices

I have the 2555 and I was ablevto find additional voices. I can't recall which ones, but I used Web Updater to get them. I use American Jack. I found the 2555 speakera bit tinny and Jill didn't sound clear. Jack's voice seems clearer to me.

From what device to what device?

I see that you list a nuvi 680 and 785T. Do you have a newer device as well?

Garmin devices that speak street names (TTS) use three different voice engines and a voice designed for one engine won't work with the others.

I expect that your 680 and 785T both use the "better" mid-range voice engine and if so, voices can be swapped. Connect the nuvi to a computer, look for the voice files (.vpm files), then copy and paste from the one nuvi to the other. Safely disconnect the devices, power up the nuvi, and see if they're there for you and if they work. If you transfer a voice from a nuvi with one engine to a nuvi with another engine, they won't work and you will have wasted your time. If so, delete the ones you copied to regain space on the device.

Note that voices do take up space. You list a device with only 2GB of space and another with 4GB. To make room for added English languages voices, you should delete voices in languages that you do not speak before attempting to add new voices.

Please make a backup of any device's files before tinkering with device files.

A possibly easier and definitely safer way to add voices is to connect your nuvi to your computer, log into the myGarmin website or use Garmin Express and search for the optional additional English language voices, then download/install them. This will guarantee that the voices you install will work in your device. With the older nuvis like yours, you may be able to use WebUpdater to add extra voices and that would be the best way to go. (WebUpdater can not add new TTS voices to the newer Garmin GPS devices although once installed, WebUpdater will update voices when an update arrives.)

You can determine what TTS voice engine your devices use by looking at the file size: American Jack with the midlevel voice engine is 13,594KB in size, while the TTS3 American Jack in top-level nuvis have Jack which is 25,469KB. The bottom level American Jack (seen maybe on the nuvi 50 series, for example) will be much smaller. Note also that if you have a mid- or top-level voice engine and you see voices that are smaller (e.g., American Michelle), don't get confused—they are from a non-text-to-speech voice that will not speak street names.

Unless you have a new Nuvi that uses "real direction" voices (TTS3 Voices) you can simply copy the voice files from the Voice folder of one Nuvi and put them in the Voice folder on another Nuvi.

If you have a new device that uses the TTS3 voices you can get them by logging on to your myGarmin.com account. I think you'll find the voices under myDashboard.
