Freeing up space on 2797LMT

I recently purchased a Garmin 2797LMT and I would like to remove the non English items from the following folders to gain additional space:

keyboards
text
themes
tracker
voice

Has anyone done this and if so can they give me step by step directions on what files can actually be deleted.

Thanks Mike

Here's the faq

The largest gain will come from voices. Here's the faq:

Of course, after making all the extra room, you may want to add the other English language voices assuming your device only came with two voices:

Thanks CraigW I cleaned up

Thanks CraigW

I cleaned up the Help and Voice folders just keeping the English files. In addition I checked for updated voices as I currently have Samantha and Michelle, Samantha is the only one that speaks Garmin Real Directions. So at this time I will stay with Samantha.

You can gain six more English language Real Directions (TTS3) voices and three non-TTS3 voices by using the myGarmin website (check for voices) or Garmin Express (I think it's under Extras or something). WebUpdater won't add these extra voices, but once added, WebUpdater will check for and offer updates.

The voice names can be found in the 2nd link I mentioned earlier. Karen is a favorite of many Factory folks. Note that the download of these extra voices is around 1/4 to 1/3 the size of a full map update so the download will take some time.

Why Garmin decided it was necessary to download an entire language pack (e.g. English) using Garmin Express makes no sense at all. Why they couldn't let it function like WebUpdater and select only voices you want makes more sense.

Now you have to wait for this long download only to have to delete the voices you don't want is just another way Garmin software developers didn't have their thinking caps on.

Very true.

From what I remember, Garmin Express only offers the full voice package (not only for English but for other languages as well).

But I think alandb, t92 or someone gave us the good news that by using the myGarmin website, you can select which extra voice(s) you want and not download/install the rest.

Of course, Garmin did remove the ability to register a device with myGarmin so Garmin Express is now the only way to register a new device confused

I just received my 2792LMT.

I just received my 2792LMT. I will be looking at the forums to free up space etc..
Thanks for all the info so far.

Garmin 2797 LMT

I bought the 2797 shortly after it came out. Finally found a good place to mount it. It has made some mistakes . Once it figured the mistake out after i went past my turn at 5 pm rush. Another it told me to make a u turn when i only needed to turn left..i saw the place first. Another time it wanted me to turn right into a swamp. But most times it is right on. I like the big screen

Loaded some additional POI's

After cleaning up files not needed I installed a few POI's from the POI factory which I see a use for.

One item I would like to add is additional commands accessible when using Voice Command as the ones provided are limited.

You Can't

You can't add addtional voice commands, it's part of the firmware of the unit that can't be altered.

Thanks, I did not know that.

Thanks as I was unaware of this. It would be nice if you could add to the list.
