Garmin Nuvi 2797 LMT (installing aftermarket voice)

After trying to find out how to install an aftermarket voice on my new Garmin 2797 LMT on the internet with no success, I found through trial and error the following procedure. First off I'm using Widows 7 but I believe this will work on most windows operating systems. I downloaded a voice from "Pigtones" and could not figure out how to get it into the GPS unit, Garmin express does not work for this and the installer that Pigtones supplies didn't work either. I plugged the unit into my computer, then went to my computer in the start menu. You will see the garmin icon for the unit there double click on it to open it up and look for the file "voices" and simply copy and paste any .VPM file you would like into this file folder. When you turn on your unit and go to settings language settings the voice you pasted as well as all of the factory voices will be available for selection.

Interesting

Interesting. I have a 2797LMT and haven't tried that. thanks!

Welcome to The Factory

Your initial problems may be due to your unit being in MTP mode rather than MS mode. A search through the faqs, Index and Glossary here should help with this.

Note that these optional voices do not offer Text To Speech so you'll only hear "Turn left in point two miles" rather than a Text To Speech voice which will say "In point two miles turn left on Elm Street."

going to try that right now
