I would like to configure my Garmin Nuvi 3597 so that it does not auto zoom. I just want it to stay at whatever setting I select. Does anybody know if this is possible?
I know that on some Garmins it was an option if I selected the UK or some other non-United States country. Could this still be possible?
Yes, you can do a hard reset
Yes, you can do a hard reset and choose Australia for a locale, then you can turn off Auto Zoom in the Settings. But you have to leave it set for Australia.

One thing that I miss from the United States setting is the rectangular SPEED LIMIT icon. Does anybody happen to know if it is possible to keep the Australina setting, but change just the SPEED LIMIT sign to the traditional US icon?
Nope.
Don't think you can alter the shape of the speed limit sign without changing the locale.
