New 70 Speed limit going up on 80 Interstate.

Going from Ohio to NY and travel on 80 East speed limit 65,I notice when I reach Dubois the speed limit change to 70,and it end when I pass Clinton Country. that is only 88 miles, that the speed limit is 70 miles..I did some research and I found out that the limit was increase on August 11 of this year, and starting Next Year it will be stretch to 550 miles plus..

.

Looks like I need to start ignoring that 55 mph mark on my speedo...no wonder people keep blowing past me like I'm standing still. mrgreen

Illinois speed limits also going up to 70mph

It's about time that Illinois also get in line with the other 36 states and increase the rural speed limits on the interstates to 70mph, starting 1/1/2015. It will cut down the speed differential which IMO causes more accidents than a lower limit.

Now

Now if we could just get Oregon above the 65 limit life would be just fine. shock

If only Ontario could see the logic of raising from 100 kph (62 mph) to 115 kph (71 mph).

If you live in Ontario go to stop100.ca and register.

Lived

Lived in Ontario for over 50 years but not in the last 20. The speed limit on the 400 series highways was 100 kph when I left there but if you were doing less than 120, you'd get run off the road. Usually by a transport truck. surprised

oh yeah, 37 states down, 13

oh yeah, 37 states down, 13 to go before they will all be that way. Don't hold your breath on OR and a few others though. The "we have to protect people from themselves" philosophy is still alive and well.

70 MPH Speed Limit

I wish it would go up on all the interstates like it used to be.

Thanks

Good to see it happening.

We head that way occasionally ... and look forward to driving the higher speed (we usually drove anyway!)

Downstate Illinois interstate speeds were raised to 70 mph this past January. Most signs are already up.

In the Minority

I know that I am in the minority, but I do not see any reason to keep raising the speed limits. We are in way too much of a hurry these days.

Country wide, 60 mph would be just fine with me. I believe that not only would this save fuel, but it would also save lives. JMHO

Travel Safe!

interesting!

I like those 70mph limits on interstate, makes sense to me. left lane goes 80-85mph regardless ...

Can't wait to roll on

Can't wait to roll on through that part at the new speed limit smile

nothing much has changed

Nothing much has changed, except transports are legally required to set their governers at 105 kph (65mph).

That's why it's so stupid to set at 100 kph. I've understood that traffic experts say the speed of a road should be set at the 85th percentile of the speed people are actually driving.

I like the new limits here

I like the new limits, now I'm only 10 over smile

I don't think it truly makes a difference on I80 or the Turnpike, I've never been pulled over when passing the police at 80, regardless if the limit was 65 or now 70.

Don't think I would try that with out of country plates. We're too much of any easy target.

.

Wait until the fuel price spikes again. We're getting a little respite for now.

Keep the market flooded with fuel, and life will be cheaper for a long time to come. Our trucker friends here will verify that.

Illinois

New legislation increases the speed limit on the Illinois Tollways to 70 MPH. The rest of the state has been 70 MPH for some time.

Speed limits.

Well, I do like o drive fast but the MPG does a major drop above 70mph even with my 2015 buggy.

70 is fast enough

70 mph is fast enough if you make it 80 people will travel 90 or more.

I have a Passat TDI, fortunately the mileage drops to about 45 MPG around 80 MPH.
