Wow. All the talk here on

Wow. All the talk here on the factory about RLC and not one comment about an entire state not renewing the program and getting rid of them?

Don't Count Your Chickens Yet

The NJ RLC are dead for the moment. However, the largest communities (Newark, Linden, Union) and a couple of others want the REVENUE. They are introducing legislation to try and keep the cameras on a local level "in the name of safety."

Have they?

Have they improved safety?

Obviously the revenue is needed!

Ban them permanently

They can either find other sources of revenue or cut back on their spending.

What Services

And, what services to the public do you suggest that they cut back their spending on? Police protection, fire protection, garbage collection, recycle collection, brush collection, road maintenance, public records, municipal courts, family and children services, interceptor sewer systems, solid waste disposal, storm water infrastructure, parks, to name a few?

Thanks For The Info

Thanks for this update and information.

They can figure it out

There are plenty of cities making it without ill-gotten camera money. There is no reason to think that this handful of cities in NJ cannot do the same. As for which specific services to cut back on, they will have to prioritze them and decide how to spent the funds they have just like everyone else. Alot of those services on your list, I get taxed or billed directly for where I live. They can do the same.

Ill-gotten?

What makes it ill-gotten?

It's all about having no coherent arguments against traffic cameras that makes opponents resort to comments like "ill-gotten"

let's consider other actions that are related to a "vehicle"

When you purchase a vehicle, you generally must pay sales tax on the purchase. Is that "ill-gotten"?

You also have to register the vehicle and be issued a license plate and perhaps some city stickers. Is that "ill-gotten"?

In some cities and states, at the end of the year, you will have to pay a Personal Property Tax on the vehicle. Is that "ill-gotten"?

I think all states require that you carry insurance on the vehicle. Is that "ill-gotten"?

In order to drive this vehicle, you must have a license. Is that "ill-gotten"?

In some jurisdictions, you must get an annual emissions test. Is that "ill-gotten"?

In order to operate your vehicle you must put fuel in it. There is a federal and possibly a local excise tax on fuel. Is that "ill-gotten"?

So far, these situations have applied to everyone who operates a vehicle. However there are some situations where only certain vehicles a charged.

Certain roads, bridges, tunnels, and ferries charge for their use. If the driver of the vehicle decides to use these facilities, there is a toll. Is that "ill-gotten"?

As the owner of the vehicle, you are responsible for all parking violations which the vehicle incurs. While that's all about the money, it only applies to a vehicle which has broken a law. Is that "ill-gotten"?

As the driver of the vehicle, you are responsible for tickets issued by a LEO. While that's all about the money, it only applies to a vehicle which has broken a law. Is that "ill-gotten"?

So why, if your vehicle is issued a ticket by Automated Traffic Enforcement, is this different from any of the above?
And why is it "ill gotten"?

They will be back

Don't worry they will be back as soon as they realize how much money they are losing. Mark my words the almighty dollar wins all the time.
