Redflex pleads guilty in RLC bribe case

Oh no, not in Chicago....

Oh no, not in Chicago.... Who would have thought.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Who woulda thought..

it would take this long to come out and surprised most cities haven't had the same news come out.
I love it they tout these a safety driven when the in almost all cases cities or the company pull them out as soon as the money runs dry.

Shhhhh......

Be berry berry quiet... They're hunting those nefarious speeders and Red Light Runners.. smile

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Makes you wonder...

It makes you wonder how many similar situations are out there that have not been uncovered yet.

the best quote

"It's how business was done..."

No surprise

I missed this story, but the story is really not surprising.

Funny to see the bit about "another former Redflex executive, Aaron Rosenberg, was also cooperating under an immunity agreement, the Tribune reported in August." That's a guy who really did well with this whole thing. No doubt he was well-compensated when he worked for Redflex and he got immunity to testify against them.

And Did You...

...expect anything differently? wink

I'm not really lost.... just temporarily misplaced!

Typical

Corruption and greed are ever present in these contracts with RLC. Everyone involved should do jail time in addition to repaying the bribes plus hefty fines. The only immunity should be for a lesser sentence.

RLC's and corruption are like PB&J

How Many?

There are about 500 cities with Red Light Cameras.

How many can you list that have been alleged to have participated in bribery schemes?

Watchdog: Red light bribe scandal could be widespread.
A fired executive of Chicago's beleaguered red light camera company alleges in a lawsuit that Redflex Traffic Systems doled out bribes and gifts at "dozens of municipalities" in 13 other states and says he is cooperating in an ongoing federal investigation.

From: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2014/02/fired_red-light_cam...

Rosenberg noted in the suit that Redflex “bestowed gifts and bribes on ... officials in dozens of municipalities within, but not limited to the following states: California, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia.”

He said Redflex bribed local officials with meals, golf outings and tickets to professional football and baseball games. The expenses were listed as categories such as “entertainment” and “celebratory tokens,” according to the suit.

We'll probably have to wait to see if these allegations have merit.

I note the use of the word "dozens"

I note that "tickets to professional football and baseball games" could well be defined in the law as "acts of bribery" but I also feel that such is happening thousands of time every day as vendors seek to influence their customers to stay with them and entice potential customers to start a relationship.

When we hear more about money passing under the table, condos provided, loans repaid, etc. in these "dozens" of other places then we will be able to better judge the severity of claims of "corruption".

Thanks for adding "We'll probably have to wait to see if these allegations have merit."

Here's at least one

It's a little old, but here it is:
